In continuation to its crusade against the drug menace and smuggling under war against drugs campaign, SAS Nagar Police has achieved a major breakthrough to break the supply chain of drugs. In a significant operation, the police has successfully arrested a notorious drug trafficker in the jurisdiction of Police Station Zirakpur with 13 Kg of Opium.
Providing further details, SSP Deepak Pareek, IPS, stated that on March 02, 2025, acting swiftly on an input, a special police team was formed under the leadership of Manpreet Singh PPS, SP (Rural), SAS Nagar, and Jaspinder Singh Gill PPS, DSP, Sub-Division Zirakpur. The operation was carried out by Inspector Jaskamal Singh Sekhon, SHO Police Station Zirakpur, along with Sub Inspector Surjit Singh from CIA Staff.
The police registered an FIR No. 103 under sections 18-61-85 NDPS Act & 111 BNS at Police Station Zirakpur and apprehended the accused along with a vehicle bearing registration number PB-65-BJ-9095 (Maruti Ciaz). As per preliminary investigations the banned contraband was originated from Jharkhand, the Police said.
Sharing the details of the arrested accused while addressing media at SSP Office, SAS Nagar, SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh alongwith DSP Zirakpur, Jaspinder Singh, informed that Jashanpreet Singh, son of Ranjit Singh, resident of Village Lalchia, Police Station Lakho Ke Behram, Tehsil Guru Har Sahai, District Ferozepur has been arrested with 13 kg of Opium while driving a Maruti Ciaz PB-65-BJ-9095.
He further said that the accused has a history of criminal involvement and was previously booked in the following cases:
1. FIR No. 88, dated 06-04-2022, under Section 307 IPC, Police Station City, Faridkot.
2. FIR No. 109, dated 12-09-2023, under Sections 18, 29, 85 of the NDPS Act, Police Station Arniwala, District Fazilka.
3. FIR No. 160, dated 20-10-2023, under Sections 21, 22, 85 of the NDPS Act, Police Station Arniwala, District Fazilka.
The accused has been taken into police remand, and an in-depth interrogation is underway to uncover further links in the drug supply chain. Apprising of the ongoing crackdown on drug networks, the SAS Nagar Police informed that apart from this arrest, Mohali Police is intensifying its crackdown on drug traffickers by conducting continuous raids at various hideouts.
In recent days, multiple FIRs have been registered, resulting in several arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics. Continuing this operation, raids were conducted at drug peddlers' hideouts today, leading to the arrest of five more drug traffickers, added SP Manpreet Singh while reiterating the commitment of eradicating the menace of drugs and ensuring Drug-Free Society as per the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General of Police, Sh Gaurav Yadav.
