Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, marked a moment of pride and achievement at the National Science Day Celebration 2025, held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event, organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.  

On this occasion of National Science Day at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi PEC Team, inclusive of Prof. Rajesh K Bhatia, Director (Ad-Interim), Prof. Umesh Sharma, Dean SRIC, Prof. Vasundhara Singh, PI with team Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Prof. Ravinder Singh Walia & Prof. Sandeep Kumar received this facilitation from Honorable Minister of Science and Technology Govt of India.

PEC has been awarded the prestigious Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) Grant, amounting to about ₹7.5 crore. This grant will significantly bolster the institution’s research ecosystem, empowering faculty and students to contribute meaningfully to scientific advancements. 

A team of about 15 young and experienced faculty lead by Prof Vasundhara Singh, PI has submitted the research proposal and secured the grant. This symbolized PEC’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaborative research. 

The event saw the participation of nine Vice Chancellors and Directors from leading institutions across India, all of whom were recognized for their contributions to research and scientific development. Prof. Bhatia, Director of PEC, emphasized the importance of encouraging young faculty members to take up impactful research initiatives. 

He highlighted PEC’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and its continuous efforts to contribute to India’s scientific and technological growth.The National Science Day celebration was graced by Hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, who acknowledged the critical role of academic institutions in shaping the future of scientific research in India.

With this approx ₹7.5 crore PURSE grant, PEC is set to further strengthen its research infrastructure, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. The institute remains steadfast in its mission to drive innovation and contribute to the nation’s scientific progress.
