Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Traffickers in Rupnagar with Special CASO Operation

Under the anti-drug campaign launched by the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann and following the directions of DGP Mr. Gaurav Yadav, a special "Cordon and Search Operation" (CASO) is being conducted at sensitive places where people are allegedly involved in the illegal business of drug in district Rupnagar.

Addressing the media on this occasion, ADGP Law and Order, SPS Parmar said that every suspect and person with a criminal background including drug peddlers is being checked and instructions have been issued to Rupnagar Police to take strict legal action against the anti-social elements who are found selling drugs.

Giving further details regarding the campaign, Mr. Parmar said that the property made by the drug peddlers with the proceeds from selling drugs will be identified and seized as per the law. The unauthorized construction done by them will be demolished. ADGP said that Rupnagar Police has launched a war-like campaign against those involved in the drug trade, under which 36 cases have been registered and 55 accused have been arrested from January 01, 2025 to February 28, 2025. 

246 grams of heroin, 01 kilo 725 grams of opium, 999 grams of white narcotic powder, 44 narcotic injections, 324 narcotic capsules, 80 narcotic tablets and Rs. 7250/- drug money have been recovered from the arrested persons. Giving more information about the CASO operation, Mr. Parmar said that in the year 2024, 15 "Cordon and Search Operations" were conducted in Rupnagar district. 

During which 29 cases were registered against drug smugglers and 33 persons were arrested. He said that 108 grams of heroin, 266 grams of narcotic powder, 07 kg 500 grams of poppy husk, 14 narcotic injections, 25 narcotic pills, 1600 liters of lahan, 34.5 liters of illicit liquor, 02 stolen motorcycles and about Rs. 1,20,000/ cash were recovered from these arrested persons under CASO operation.

On this occasion, 03 SPs. 10 DSPs, 10 Inspectors and about 225 police personnel were deployed in this operation and police teams have been formed under the supervision of SPs and DSPs to check the vehicles in the border area and internal sensitive points of district as well so that no drug smuggler can escape the police's clutches.

Mr. Khurana said that Rupnagar Police will continue to take similar action against drug smugglers in the future. No drug smuggler will be spared at any cost and strict action will be taken under the law.

He said that anyone can share the information about drug smugglers on Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline number 97791-00200 (WhatsApp chatbot) or the district police numbers. The name and address of the informant will be kept confidential.
