Punjab Education and Information & Public Relations Minister Harjot Singh Bains has called upon Punjab government school students to focus on science subjects and take admission in country’s premier institutes like IISER, IIT and IIM. Inaugurating the two-day Science Fest TATTVA at Indian Institute of Science Education and Reasearch, Mohali, Education Minister Bains while giving the examples of renowned Indian and International Scientists and Reasearchers, Sir C V Raman, J C Bose, Isec Newton and Copernicus inspired the Punjab School Science Students of Class 10+1  from SOE and Meritorious Schools witnessing the Science Fest to follow these great personalities to become scientists and inventors of future. 

He said that we should observe each and everything in our surroundings and the science that relates to these phenomena. This will Inculcate fascination for Science Learning. Referring to the change in humankind from the era of invention of wheel and fire to mobile phone era and invention of High Speed Trains, Aero Planes, Advancements in Medical Sciences and now another transformation of Chatgpt and other AI tools, the Education Minister said that these were possible due to the curiosity of knowing the reason behind the every phenomena and strong desire to move ahead to invent something unique and new.

He said that we should make these scientists our ICONs and books in libraries our friends to achieve the goal of our life in a field that paves the way to serve the Nation. He gave examples of former  President late Abdul Kalam who attained the highest post by the path of learning and studies despite of hardships in his life. 

He said that these days, the students of Government Schools have been provided with a lot of exceptions in infrastructure and excellence in education so they must compete for IIT, IIM and IISER like premier institutes to become the future scientists of Nation. Assuring the IISER Mohali Director Dr Anil Kumar Tripathi of the fulsome support on behalf of Punjab Government, he urged them to consider to set up an institute expansion/outreach campus of IISER in rural belt of Punjab to motivate the rural students towards Science Learning. 

He said that the Government can consider to provide site for setting up of this type expansion of IISER. Earlier, while welcoming the Education Minister as a first Education Minister of state to visit the campus, IISER Director Dr Anil  Kumar Tripathi said that February 28 has been observed as National Science Day to commemorates the anniversary of Sir C.V. Raman's ground-breaking discovery of the 'Raman Effect' in 1928.

This discovery earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Indian to win a Nobel in the sciences. He expressed gratitude to the Education Minister and assured to serve the State by considering his proposal positively.

Education Minister also released a Science Magazine on this occasion in the Presence of Dr Anjan Ray, former Director of Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, Dr Jagdeep Singh, Registrar IISER, Dr Amit, Dean Outreach and International Relations.
