Under Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, the District Administration Kulgam today organized an orientation programme on combating drug menace for religious leaders here at conference hall of mini-secretariat Kulgam under the theme ‘Khushall Kulgam.’ The programme was attended by ADC, Viqar Ahmad Giri; ACR, ACP, DSWO, Resource Persons from Health, Drug Controller, Excise and Taxation, Police and DAC besides a large number of religious leaders from different areas of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan said that religious leaders play a vital role in raising awareness vis-a-vis combating drug menace. He underscored the significance of a collective fight by all stakeholders to make Kulgam a drug-free district and urged all sections of society to join hands in this fight.

The DC also highlighted various initiatives taken by the District Administration to curb drug abuse which include massive awareness campaigns and intensive drives to destroy poppy and bung cultivation across the district besides strict action against those involved in drug peddling. He advocated supporting the victims and working for their rehabilitation, rather than stigmatizing them.

The programme witnessed active participation from religious leaders and other key stakeholders, who expressed their support in spreading awareness and guiding the youth towards a drug-free future. Meanwhile, the District Administration is going to organize more orientation programmes under the theme ‘Khushall Kulgam’ with the objective to reach out different sections and stakeholders of the society to spread awareness about substance abuse, and to take this fight to its conclusion to make Kulgam drug free.
