In a major breakthrough against crime, Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested the main accused in a shooting incident that claimed one life during a wedding celebration. The operation also led to the recovery of the revolver used in the fatal shooting at an NRI's function in village Chak Des Raj. The arrest comes as part of the special drive against unlawful activities.

The accused has been identified as Hariman Singh alias Harman, son of Arvinder Singh alias Bittu, resident of village Gorayan. Police investigation uncovered that the accused fired three shots during the celebration, with the first shot directly striking Paramjit Singh, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar Rural Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that the operation was executed under the supervision of  DSP Sarwan Singh Bal,Sub-Division Phillaur, with a team led by Sub-Inspector Gursharan Singh, Station House Officer, Police Station Goryan. SSP Khakh added that on February 22, 2025, ASI Subhash Kumar, In-charge Police Post Dhuleta, received crucial information about a shooting incident from February 17.

"At approximately 10:00 PM, during the wedding celebration of an NRI family in village Chak Des Raj, the accused fired multiple shots in complete violation of government prohibitions on aerial firing," said SSP Khakh. During initial questioning, the accused revealed disturbing details about the incident that was captured on video and subsequently circulated on social media platforms.

"Despite strict regulations banning aerial firing at public gatherings, the accused recklessly endangered numerous guests present at the function," SSP Khakh stated. Further investigation exposed a cover-up attempt involving five individuals who deliberately concealed evidence by cremating the deceased's body without conducting mandatory post-mortem examination.

These five have been named as Rachpal Singh (NRI), Sukhjit Sahota, and Bhupinder Singh from village Chak Des Raj, along with Satinder Singh from village Ladia and Makhan Singh currently residing in America. A case has been registered under sections 125, 105, 238, 61(2) of BNS and sections 25/27-54-59 of the Arms Act at Police Station Guraya.

The accused was arrested on February 25, 2025, and produced before the Judicial Magistrate in Phillaur for police remand to facilitate further investigation. "We are thoroughly investigating the source of the illegal weapon and working diligently to apprehend all accomplices involved in this case," SSP Khakh added.

The investigation continues as police work to uncover the complete network behind this serious crime. SSP Khakh reiterated the commitment of Punjab Police to ensure public safety and urged citizens to report any information regarding illegal weapons or suspicious activities.

He assured complete confidentiality for all informants.
