Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Dr. Sumita Misra has said that investigations should be completed and challans should be presented in the court within the stipulated time period. She was chairing the 24th state-level committee meeting of identified crime cases at the Civil Secretariat today.
In this meeting, cases for the period from October 2024 to January 2025 were reviewed. Cases under the POCSO Act, NDPS Act, murder, attempt to rape, SC/ST Act and other crimes fall under the category of identified crimes.Dr. Sumita Misra directed the police department that all investigating officers should complete the investigations within the stipulated time limit and submit the challan in the court.
Necessary instructions were issued to officers of the Forensic Science Laboratory, Haryana to submit the reports in the desired cases on time. Apart from this, the Director, Prosecution Department was directed to request the court for speedy hearing of the cases of identified crimes through District Attorneys so that these can be disposed of soon.
All District Attorneys should effectively plead the cases on behalf of the government so that the conviction rate increases and the desired objectives can be achieved.Dr. Misra instructed the officials of the concerned departments to take immediate action in cognizable crimes.
The investigating officers were asked to complete the investigation of the cases on a priority basis and compile the necessary documents on time. It was decided to further encourage the use of videoconferencing to ensure the safety and presence of witnesses and to speed up the hearing process.
After reviewing the decisions taken in the previous meeting, detailed discussions were held on the agenda items. Officials informed that a total of 2,279 cases have been included in the list of identified crimes, out of which 500 cases have been disposed of by the court. Of these, punishment was pronounced in 289 cases, making the conviction rate 60.46 percent.
Apart from this, it was recommended to include 209 new cases in the list of identified crimes during the period from 1st October, 2024 to 31st January, 2025, which was approved.Law Advisor, senior officials of Police, Prosecution, Crime, Law and Order, Intelligence and Home Departments and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
