Avinash Kumar, a third year student of B.Tech Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI &ML) from the department of Information Technology (IT), Chandigarh Engineering College (CEC)-CGC Landran, has secured the first position at SIT Ideathon 3.0 a national-level innovation challenge organized by Siliguri Institute of Technology, West Bengal.
He was felicitated with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-. Competing against 81 teams from across India, Avinash demonstrated outstanding technical proficiency and problem-solving skills, bringing laurels to CGC Landran.
The competition saw finalists presenting innovative solutions in AI, sustainability, disaster prevention, education and social empowerment. Avinash’s project, ‘WEBTECHFLY,’ an advanced AI-integrated multipurpose VTOL Plane, stood out for its practical applications and technological creativity, addressing critical challenges in drone technology.
Traditional drones often struggle with payload capacity, endurance and adaptability across challenging terrains like mountains, forests, and disaster zones however, Avinash’s AI-powered solution integrates Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) capabilities with fixed-wing efficiency, enabling extended flight range and higher payload capacity.
It is also equipped with AI-driven thermal imaging, real-time analytics, and autonomous navigation, making it highly effective for disaster management, security and logistics applications such as search & rescue, surveillance and medical aid delivery.
Congratulating the talented CGCian on this achievement, Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC Landran, said, "We are proud of Avinash. His win is a testament to the talent and dedication we are committed to nurturing here, at CGC Landran.
His project is a brilliant example of how AI and automation can revolutionize critical sectors like medical care, disaster management and security. We are proud to see our students shaping the future of technology with their cutting-edge ideas."
Echoing this sentiment and appreciating the student, Dr. P.N. Hrisheekesha, Campus Director, CGC Landran, added, "Avinash’s accomplishment reflects our institution’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.
We hope his success inspires more students to explore, innovate and devise effective solutions to problems faced by different industries.”
