Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, hosted its highly anticipated Global Annual Alumni Meet 2025, a spectacular celebration of brilliance, nostalgia, and commitment to excellence. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed alumni, dignitaries, and industry leaders, reinforcing PEC’s legacy as a premier engineering institution.

The meet was graced by Er. Gursharan Singh (Batch of 1981, Senior Vice President, Micron Technology, USA) as the Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director of PEC, presided over the event, warmly welcoming the Chief Guest and all distinguished alumni by lighting the ceremonial lamp, accompanied by esteemed guests of the day.

The event was meticulously organized by the Punjab Engineering College Old Students’ Association (PECOSA) under the leadership of Er. Manish Gupta (President, PECOSA) and Er. H.S. Oberoi (General Secretary, PECOSA), with generous sponsorship from Maruti Suzuki Arena, IND-SPHINK, AXIS, ATAM, ATS, RBP, 94.3 My FM, Febi, Ramani, and Surya Steel Industries.

Alumni spanning batches from 1955 to 2022, including professionals from India, Nepal, the USA, the UK, the Gulf, Canada, and Australia, gathered to reconnect, reminisce, and engage in meaningful discussions about the institute’s future.

The event commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony, led by Er. Gursharan Singh, alongside Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Bhatia (Director, PEC & Patron, PECOSA), Er. Manish Gupta (President, PECOSA), Er. H.S. Oberoi (General Secretary, PECOSA), Prof. Rajesh Kanda (Head, Alumni, Corporate & International Relations), and Prof. Jimmy Karloopia (Professor-in-Charge, Alumni, Corporate & International Relations).

They emphasized the pivotal role of alumni in strengthening PEC’s global network. Prominent dignitaries at the event included Er. They shared fond memories of their time at PEC, recalling mass bunks, classroom experiences, and friendships that have stood the test of time. In his keynote address, Er. Gursharan Singh reflected on his 48-year professional journey, detailing his transition from mechanical engineering to the semiconductor industry.

He highlighted India’s rapid advancements in semiconductor technology and announced Micron’s ambitious plan to establish a 1.5 million square feet chip manufacturing facility, generating 1,000 jobs, many of which will be open to PEC alumni.

He also lauded PEC’s Semiconductor Lab initiative and Dr. Arun Kumar Singh’s efforts in developing a specialized course in collaboration with Micron. A major milestone of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PEC and Micron Technologies, spearheaded by Dr. Arun Kumar Singh (HOD, ECE Department).

This collaboration aims to offer scholarships, training programs, and enhanced placement opportunities, with 50 students set to receive specialized training at SCL Mohali. Director Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bhatia expressed gratitude to the alumni for their unwavering support and underscored the importance of aligning PEC’s curriculum with evolving industry demands.
