Special DGP, Law & Order, Sh. Arpit Shukla said here, today, evening that following the directions of Punjab Chief Minister, S. Bhagwant Singh Mann and under the leadership of DGP Punjab, Sh. Gaurav Yadav, strategies have been planned to curb street crime in the state of Punjab. Briefing the media along with DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and SSP Deepak Pareek, he said that special focus is being given on controlling and preventing street crime in the district SAS Nagar (Mohali).

Apprising about the steps taken by the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar Police, the Special DGP further said that SAS Nagar (Mohali) police in the past few months, have taken remarkable action to bring down the crime graph in the district. He said that the number of PCRs has increased from 13 to 30 PCR, that has improved in visible policing and helped in reducing snatching by almost 50% from Oct 2024 to Dec 2024.

Apart from that strategic deployment of 6 Inter-District Night nakas has been laid down across the district. Night Domination is supervised by 3 GOs, along with 10 Inspector ranked officers. Informing about the deterrence effects, he said that about 5711 vehicles have been issued traffic challans during night checking while 51 vehicles impounded from Dec 2024 till date.

Similarly, a total of 1,61,742 Traffic Challans have been issued in the year 2024, including 69,260 E-challans and 2189 Drunk and Drive challans. During these Nakas/pickets, recovery of illegal weapons and contraband has also been effected. A Special Surveillance Drive against bailed-out snatchers and thieves in various cases have been launched and 448 Preventive Actions under various sections of BNSS were initiated against such crime suspects in 2025 (past 48 days) itself.

To make the people safe from the criminal activities, 70 Radio Frequency based wireless CCTV cameras have been installed in the jurisdiction of PS Zirakpur. Similarly, Major markets of Mohali like 3B2 and Jubilee walk have been covered with 35 CCTV cameras for regulation and crime prevention.

This has also helped in preventing hooliganism in these markets. SP (Investigation) Dr Jyoti Yadav, SP (City) Harbir Singh Atwal and SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh were also present in the meeting chaired by the special DGP, earlier at the Mataur Police Station to discuss law and order situation in the SAS Nagar district with DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and SSP Deepak Pareek.
