The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, inaugurated an Advanced Faculty Development Program (FDP) on "Advanced Machine Learning: Diverse Applications from Healthcare to Industry" today.
Sponsored by AICTE-ATAL Academy, this comprehensive program is scheduled to run from 3rd to 15th February 2025. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Chief Guest, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director of PEC, along with Guest of Honour, Mr. Vikram R. Singh from Antier Solutions, Mohali.
Also present on this distinguished occasion were Head of the Department of CSE, Prof. Trilok Chand, along with FDP Coordinators Dr. Padmavati and Dr. Sudesh Rani. Initially, FDP Coordinator Dr. Padmavati provided an insightful overview of the program, emphasizing its significance and scope.
She extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries, speakers, and participants. This two-week FDP encompasses an array of intellectually stimulating sessions covering topics such as Human Action Recognition, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), AI applications in non-linear dental imaging, 3D anatomical surface prediction from X-rays for computer-aided diagnostics, and advanced machine learning techniques.
Additionally, the FDP includes a four-day industrial visit to enhance practical exposure. Co-coordinator Dr. Sudesh Rani shared her perspectives on the FDP's structure, the distinguished speakers, and the diverse range of topics covered.
She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all involved in making this event a success. Participants from across the globe have joined this program, gaining crucial insights into industry-specific problem-solving methodologies.
The FDP also features industrial visits to Antier Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Mohali, and CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh, further bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical applications. Further, HoD CSE and FDP Chairperson, Prof. Trilok Chand, elaborated on the deep-rooted objectives of the program.
He highlighted the significance of AI-ML applications in next-generation wireless networks, multispectral imaging for precision agriculture, GPUs and TPUs, AI in medicine, and blockchain-based advancements across various domains.
The program also delves into critical topics such as cancer detection through voice data, ML applications in food and nutrition, predictive analytics in telecom, and engine health monitoring using machine learning.
Director and Patron of the FDP, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, extended a warm welcome to all participants, emphasizing PEC’s legacy and its contribution to producing distinguished alumni. He underscored the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and industry collaboration.

Guest of Honour, Mr. Vikram R. Singh, addressed the gathering with insightful thoughts on knowledge, wisdom, and leadership.

The FDP is spearheaded under the patronage of Director Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, with Prof. Trilok Chand serving as the Chairperson. It is being coordinated by Dr. Padmavati and co-coordinated by Dr. Sudesh Rani.
