A workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Technology Transfer was organised by Intellectual Property Rights Cell and office of Dean Students Welfare in which Dr. Amaresh Panda, a seasoned Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Professional from the Government of India participated as speaker. 

The session aimed to create awareness among various stake holders about the importance of protecting intellectual property and its significance in India. Dr. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dean Students Welfare delivered an inspiring inaugural address, highlighting the significance of intellectual property rights in today's rapidly evolving world. 

Prof. Bedi also emphasized the need for understanding and safeguarding intellectual creations to foster innovation and economic growth. The session was attended by as many as 300 participants which included faculties, Ph.D. Scholars and postgraduate students from various domains including law, life sciences, arts etc.

After the session, In a special meeting, Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor discussed on enhancing patenting efforts for the university's research projects. Prof. Singh emphasized the need for increased government support to assist university researchers in navigating the complexities of intellectual property rights. 

He underscored that such collaboration would enable researchers to produce impactful results that contribute significantly to societal advancement and innovation. This meeting was held in Vice Chancellor Office with Dr. Amaresh Panda, a seasoned Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Professional from the Government of India, along with Prof. Preet Mohinder Singh Dean Student's Welfare.

In the session, Dr. Panda provided a comprehensive overview of intellectual property rights and their significance in the current global scenario. He explained how intellectual property refers to intangible creations of the human intellect, such as inventions, literary and artistic works, symbols, names, designs and discussed the various types of IPR and their classifications like copyright, trademarks etc. 

He said that this workshop is one of its kind as for the first time in India a hands-on demonstration was organised on drafting and filing a patent. The entire process of drafting and filing the patent application was also taken up in detail along with a practical exercise on drafting the patent specifications including claims, and abstract. 

This helped the participants understand the process closely and with better clarity. Later, the speaker shared real-life examples of individuals and organizations that successfully leveraged their intellectual property to launch businesses, secure investments, and drive economic growth. 

Since the session was conducted by an esteemed expert in intellectual property laws, the attendees were given a 360-degree view and a detailed understanding of the topic. The workshop gracefully concluded with a Q&A round with the speaker addressing the doubts of the attendees. 

In the end, Dr. Harkirandeep Kaur,the coordinator of the workshop, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming response and the positive feedback received from the participants. She emphasised the university's dedication to provide an environment for capacity building and information dissemination in the field of intellectual property rights.The vote of thanks was also given by Dr. Harkirandeep Kaur.
