Chandigarh , 30 Jan 2025

Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, observed Martyrs’ Day on 30th January 2025 in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for India's freedom.

A two-minute silence was observed at 11:00 AM outside the Administrative Block in their honor. The event was attended by Registrar, Col. (Veteran) R. M. Joshi, Dean Student Affairs, Dr. D. R. Prajapati, along with faculty members, staff, and students.

Addressing the gathering, Col. Joshi emphasized the significance of this solemn occasion, stating that 30th January, observed as Shaheed Diwas (Martyrs’ Day), serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters for the nation’s independence.

The day also marks the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, in 1948. The observance began with the sounding of an ‘All Clear’ siren at 10:59 AM, signaling the commencement of the two-minute silence, and concluded with another siren at 11:02 AM.

The entire PEC community stood united in reverence, reflecting on the courage and dedication of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.
