Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, expressed pride in the achievements of student-athletes and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence during Sports Trophies Award Function of Guru Nanak Dev University held in the Senate Hall to honor the winner colleges of ‘A’ and ‘B’ divisions (Men & Women) for the academic year 2023-2024.

Prof. Singh highlighted the importance of sports in fostering overall development among students and reiterated that the University will extend full support to ensure that college sports programs flourish. 

During his address, he also stressed the need for short-term courses and internships tailored for students to enhance their employability skills, thus enabling them to secure jobs more easily after the their studies. 

He assured that the University is dedicated to providing every possible resource and support for each student on campus and the colleges. On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor awarded the trophies to the winning institutions.

The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Palwinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. K.S. Kahlon, Registrar, Prof. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dean Student Wellfare, Dr. Amandeep Singh, Incharge Youth Welfare, Dr. Jagraj Singh, President GNDUSC (Men) and Dr. Navjot Kaur, President GNDUSC (Women). 

Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh, Director Sports, presented a detailed report on the sports achievements of the University. Dr. Kanwar said that Khalsa College, Amritsar, emerged as the star of the evening, winning the coveted "Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yadgari Trophy" for Best Overall Performance, along with the Overall General Championship Trophy in the ‘A’ Division (Men). 

Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, and DAV College, Amritsar, secured the first and second runners-up positions, respectively. In the Women’s ‘A’ Division, HMV Jalandhar clinched the Overall General Championship Trophy, followed by BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, and GNDU Campus, Amritsar, as the first and second runners-up. 

In the ‘B’ Division, SBDS Khalsa College, Domeli, won in the Men’s section, with SSM College, Dinanagar, as runners-up. In the Women’s section, Hindu College, Amritsar, secured the top position, while Doaba College, Jalandhar, was runners-up.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated all the winner colleges, emphasizing that colleges are the backbone of the University and play a pivotal role in supporting sports and cultural activities. This initiative underlines Guru Nanak Dev University’s mission to not only excel academically but also cultivate a strong sporting culture among its students.

The event concluded with a resounding applause for the achievements of the colleges and their contribution to the University's legacy.
