The main reason for domestic violence is addiction and illegal relations. The Women's Commission receives many such cases in which women are beaten by their husbands only due to these two reasons. Along with this, in 60 percent of the cases, the complaints are found to be false. Today, live-in relationships are not only seen among young boys and girls, but also among middle-aged people.
The above thoughts were expressed by Raj Lali Gill, President of Punjab State Women's Commission, while participating as the chief guest in the state level function organized by Disha Women Welfare Trust on the topic 'We women - our rights, duties and society'. It is worth mentioning that about 150 women from different districts of Punjab participated in this program organized by Disha Women Welfare Trust Chandigarh, an organization that makes women self-reliant, under the leadership of President Hardeep Kaur.
The special thing about the program was that women from every field participated in it. On this occasion, senior journalists Trilochan Singh, Jai Singh Chhibber and Simranjot Singh Makkar raised issues related to women and asked questions. This was a platform where empowered women themselves gave suggestions regarding women's problems. Sensitive topics like domestic violence, live-in relationships, divorce, women's rights, duties and harassment at the workplace were discussed openly.
The program was conducted by senior journalist Akanksha who arrived from Bathinda. In the program, famous writer and doctor Dr. Harshinder Kaur, social worker Jagjit Kaur Kahlon, women entrepreneur Kanchan Bedi, advocate Rupinder Pal Kaur, principal Harjit Kaur, film actress Saira, women journalist Arpan Kaur, Lishkara fame R. Deep Raman, skin specialist Ruby Saini, social worker Satinder Kaur did justice to the topic by answering every question raised by the journalists.
On this occasion, Dr. Harshinder Kaur said that no one is more capable than a woman to lead the society properly. During the program, 15 women were honored with the Women Iconic Award for their remarkable contribution in various fields. At the end of the ceremony, expressing gratitude to the women who came from various districts of Punjab, Hardeep Kaur said that the main objective of the trust is to empower women.
That is why the trust talks about the rights and duties of women. She said that the trust is continuously working towards making women self-reliant under the Jag Bhaine Jag and Disha Rozgar Abhiyan.
