Cabinet Minister and MLA from Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency Mr. Harjot Singh Bains on Saturday impressed upon the Union Minister Manohar Lal to ensure that status quo is maintained while allocating jobs to Punjabi youth in NFL and BBMB. During a function at IIT Rupnagar, the Minister vehemently opposed any change of provision in jobs for Punjabi youth in BBMB and NFL as thousands of vacancies are vacant in both BBMB and NFL he said and added that stipulated norms should be respected and any deviation from them is both unwarranted and undesirable.

Raising another issue, the Minister sought revival of asia’s largest workshop of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) Nangal which is non-functional from more than 40 years and said that our unemployed youth will also get higher number of job opportunities by it’s revival.

He further said that the residents of Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency, especially the residents of Nangal, Kiratpur Sahib and Sri Anandpur Sahib which come under the jurisdiction of Bhakra Beas Management Board, face serious infrastructure challenges due to lack of road connectivity. Besides, old buildings of BBMB have become ruins and the youth are not being given jobs, he added.

He envisioned that it will also give major fillip to economic activity and develop industrial sector and business in area. Minister said that their forefathers had given their precious land for the construction of Bhakra Nangal Dam, canals, power plants and our forefathers used to work in BBMB and NFL, but now youth from area are not being given jobs in these institutions.

Mr. Bains also demanded the restoration of Nangal-Bhakra railways connectivity to boost tourism in Nangal and “Guru ki Nagri” Sri Anandpur Sahib. He also thanked the Union Minister for recently approving the construction of five new bridges including a bridge on Sirsa-Nangal, reconstruction of 60-year-old bridges in Brahmpur and Drauli, bridges for Atari and its adjoining villages and bridge for village Bhaowal.

Cabinet Minister said that these bridges will not only improve road connectivity but will also give a boost to the overall development and tourism of this region.
