While presiding over the concluding ceremony of the month-long 'Khel Khilao – Nasha Bhagao' campaign (Mha Abhiyan) organized by Arki Welfare Society at Arki in Solan District, today, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla emphasized the importance of combating drug addiction through community efforts.

''Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, I initiated an anti-drug campaign in Himachal Pradesh a year ago. While progress has been gradual, the successful execution of this sports-based awareness program reflects positive momentum,'' said the Governor.

He stressed that such initiatives could only succeed if kept free from political influences. Recognizing the pivotal role of women in this movement, he called them the strongest force to lead the fight against drug addiction. Reflecting on the rich legacy of Himachal as a land of valor, he expressed concern that drug addiction among the youth could compromise national security by weakening future generations.

The Governor urged Panchayati Raj representatives to actively contribute to the cause, including seeking police support against drug abuse. He emphasized the need for a collective approach, involving government efforts, societal awareness and cultural connection, to safeguard and enhance the rich traditions and values of the State.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation for this unique and impactful initiative that combines the power of sports with a strong message to combat the social evil of substance abuse. He commended the Arki Welfare Society for their dedication in making the campaign a success.

He highlighted the importance of sports not just as a means to encourage athletic talents but also as an effective tool to steer the youth away from the menace of drugs. He pointed out that drug addiction poses a significant threat to the youth of the nation, who are future of our society.

The Governor emphasized the theme of the campaign, 'Khel Khilao – Nasha Bhagao', as a clarion call for the youth to adopt sports and shun the harmful allure of drugs. He called upon athletes to view themselves as ambassadors of a larger movement that inspires young people to prioritize health and positivity over substance abuse.

He appealed to parents, educators and community members to use such occasions to discuss with the youth the importance of making wise choices. He emphasized upon the collective responsibility of families, schools, society and government in achieving this goal.

“Together, let us create a Himachal where our youth are free from the shackles of addiction and empowered through education, sports, and community engagement,” he remarked, calling for a united commitment to drive change and make Himachal drug-free through sustained and sincere efforts.

The Governor also enjoyed the final match of the women's tug of war competition organized on this occasion. He also awarded the winning teams of cricket and tug of war competition.

Earlier, the coordinator of the program Surendra Thakur welcomed the Governor and gave detailed information about this competition which lasted for a month. Former MLA Govind Thakur, State Gau Seva Pramukh Dinesh Shastri and social worker Mayurakshi Singh also expressed their views.

DC Solan Manmohan Sharma, SP Gaurav Singh and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
