Punjab Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria has called upon the institutes and universities to encourage entrepreneurship among the students to make them job providers instead of seekers. Addressing a convocation ceremony held at Footwear Design and Development Institute at Banur, the Governor said that we need to develop an ecosystem that encourages knowledge based entrepreneurship to make our young generation job providers instead of job seekers, especially through the creation of knowledge based organizations.

He conferred degrees upon 15 students of total  128 passes out of 2023 and 2024, while the rest of the degrees were awarded by the Executive Director Ms Pragya Singh and Secretary Col Pankaj Sinha of FDDI. The Institute has emerged as a centre of excellence in the field of footwear, leather accessories, retail and fashion design.

Expressing happiness, he said that today we are not only talking about traditional subjects like medicine, engineering, management for the advancement of our youth but are focusing on new age approaches like footwear production, fashion designing, leather goods designing, retail merchandising etc. Institutes like FDDI are providing such a wide sky of limitless possibilities of innovation to the new generation in which they can fly high to realize their dreams, the Governor added further.

Emphasizing the importance of skill training with Education, he said that Education and the skilled workforce are imperatives for the development of a strong economy. We need to break the barriers of knowledge and develop a more robust mechanism to support education and entrepreneurship to contribute to the “Young Nation” India.

Extending his best wishes to the pass outs, the Governor said, “As you leave this prestigious institute, remember that you are not just stepping into the professional world; you are also stepping into the responsibility of shaping the future. The knowledge and skills acquired here enable you to not only excel in your career but also make a meaningful impact on society.” Preparing them for the future, he said that the world you are entering is both challenging and dynamic.

The fourth industrial revolution, driven by advances in AI, automation and sustainability, is reshaping industries at an unprecedented pace. In this emerging landscape, your adaptability, creativity and commitment to lifelong learning will be your greatest assets.  Akanksha Gupta and Rishita Ladiwal (2023 batch) and Divpriya and Stuti Pant (2024 batch) bagged gold medals while Ekjot Kaur (Department of Footwear Design & Production, 2023 batch), Shrishti Mittal (Department of Leather Lifestyle & Product Designing, 2023 batch), Ozal Garg (Department of Footwear Design & Production) silver medals for academic excellence.

Secretary Colonel Pankaj Sinha commended the Banur campus for its robust academic programs and urged both students and faculty to maintain their commitment to excellence.
