Paras Health Panchkula has announced the successful completion of Total Body Irradiation (TBI) treatment for the first time at its Department of Radiation Oncology. The radiation treatment was carried out on a 12-year-old cancer patient- Amit (name changed) under the supervision of Brig.

Dr. Ajay Sharma, Director - Haemato-Oncology & Dr. Parneet Singh, Consultant - Radiation Oncology, with unwavering support from the RT Technologist team, Medical Physics team, hospital management, and logistics. This marks yet another achievement in quality cancer care at the multispecialty hospital. This marks a critical step in delivering modern therapies to patients requiring stem cell transplants.

Total Body Irradiation is a specialized radiation therapy designed to treat the entire body with high-energy X-rays. This procedure plays a vital role in preparing patients for stem cell transplants by eliminating remaining cancer cells, suppressing the immune system to prevent transplant rejection, and creating space in the bone marrow for new stem cells.

Dr. Parneet Singh emphasized the significance of this achievement: “Completing Total Body Irradiation at Paras Health Panchkula reflects our commitment to offering high quality treatments for patients battling complex conditions like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. This procedure enables us to provide life-saving care to patients who require stem cell transplants, improving their chances of recovery and survival.”

TBI is a meticulously planned treatment, often delivered over two to four days in multiple sessions or as a single dose, depending on the patient’s condition. To ensure patient safety, protective measures such as lung blocks and Plexiglass screens are employed to minimize radiation exposure to sensitive organs and ensure even distribution across the body.

This breakthrough in treatment underscores the capabilities of Paras Health Panchkula in addressing challenging medical conditions with precision and care. The procedure is used to treat not only cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma but also certain rare blood disorders, offering new hope to patients and families.

Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Facility Director, Paras Health, Panchkula, expressed his pride in the achievement: “This accomplishment highlights our hospital’s focus on innovation and excellence in patient care. With a dedicated team of experts and high end infrastructure, we are paving the way for advanced cancer treatments in the region. Our ability to perform TBI underscores our commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare solutions to the community.”

The successful completion of TBI at Paras Health Panchkula demonstrates the hospital’s dedication to delivering advanced and compassionate care. As one of the leading hospitals in oncology services, Paras Health continues to enhance its treatment capabilities, ensuring patients have access to the most effective therapies available today.

This milestone is a testament to the hospital’s vision of bringing world-class healthcare closer to home and providing patients with the best possible outcomes in their fight against cancer.
