District Police and Civil administration on Tuesday jointly launched mission 'Hoshiyar' for wiping out menace of drugs completely in the district by soliciting joint efforts of panchayats and villagers against the drugs in villages. In an impressive function organised here at City Center where around 300 panchayats including its more than 700 representatives from Hoshiapur block-1 & 2 participated, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal and SSP Surendra Lamba jointly assured the people that evrey single input on drugs would be kept fully confidential besides taking stern immediate action against the smugglers.
The SSP urged the people to provide information on helpline number 95016-60318, on Control Room's number 01882-247506, 75290-30100 or Safe Punjab Anti Drug Helpline number 97791-00200, so that appropriate action could be initiated based on the information. He said that this endeavour was organised on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav to make direct connect (sampark) with the public to address the menace of drugs efficaciously.
He said that the collective efforts could yield further efficient results by bringing drug kingpins and peddlers to the book. Member Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal emphasised that the Panchayats should ensure pro-active role in mission against drugs as well as taking youngsters towards sports so that they could lead a healthy life.
He said that a policy was being formulated so as to implement the anti-drugs programs far more effectively. He also pointed out that Panchayats should be more vigilant in their villages to break the nexus of drugs on the one hand while the rehabilitation of addicted youngsters on the other.
Lauding this initiative of Civil and Police administration, MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa also stressed that the Panchayats could contribute a lot to brush aside the menace of drugs. He also pointed out that those indulged in the practice of drug selling or smuggling, they should not be given any sort of help in villages, which would be a detterent effect for others too.
He also assured that the civil and police administration was standing with the panchayats and villagesrs shoulder to shoulder in this social and noble cause. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal also made a fervent appeal to women to come forward against drugs as well as initiate extra vigil (theekri pehras) in villages. She said it was high time to work for this genuine cause as well as to come forward for the rehabilitation for those got addicted instead of isolate them.
She also motivated the women to be unite and join efforts of police besides briefing about the state-of-the-art rehabilitation center in Hoshiarpur, which is highly helpful for addicts to get rid from this menace. SSP Surendra Lamba also called upon panchayats to come forward against drugs, make all out efforts to get the CCTV cameras installed in their villages and involve youngsters in sports, which could be helpful in containing this malpractic.
Meanwhile, Sarpanches of Bhagowal village Amarjit Singh, Dada village Surinder Kumar, Geeganwal Sarpanch Ranbir Singh, Sandhra village's sarpanch Jaswinder Singh, Nangal Shaheedan's Sarpanch Sarbjit Kaur also expressed their valuable views and assured the fulsome support to police and civil administration. The Rang Manch group led by Ashok Puri presented an anti-drug play named 'Main Punjab Boldan Haan', which garnered round of applause from the attendees. SP Sarbjit Singh Bahia, SDM Sanjiv Sharma and other senior officers of civil and police administration were also present.
