In its new year resolution to complete the ongoing rural development works by the end of the current fiscal, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain holds a detailed meeting on Saturday with ADC (Rural Development) and Block Development and Panchayat Officers at DAC Mohali. Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that as the current fiscal is coming to an end by March 2025, so the meeting was aimed at reviewing the ongoing works and their timely completion.
As the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development), Sonam Chaudhary briefed her about the current status of the ongoing works, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Rural Development officers to pick up the pace to ensure completion before March End. The Deputy Commissioner insisted on the coverage of Playgrounds in half of the total villages by the fixed deadline of March 2025.
There were a total of 154 Playgrounds planned to be set up in the district, and so far, 76 have been completed. She said that the rest of the Playgrounds must be completed by March end so that the youth of these villages could benefit from them. Taking stock of the construction of 18 Anganwaris buildings under MGNREGA, she asked the Department to enhance the number to 26 and complete them without any further delay.
As of now, 08 of the buildings have been kept ready. Emphasising the importance of the rejuvenation of village ponds under the Thapar Model, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Rural Development officers to bring at least a fourth villages of the total number of villages under updation as the Thapar Model. She said that the current number 17 is too little so it should be increased to cover at least 25 percent of the ponds.
Reviewing the construction of Libraries in the villages, she asked the Department to identify more villages in each block to send the proposal to the state government. Interacting with the Rural Water and Sanitation department officers present in the meeting, she directed them to make sure to get all the households connected with tap water and liquid and solid waste management would also be done on priority by sensitising the villagers of the various techniques of disposal of liquid and solid waste.
Stressing the need to bring the whole district under the ODF plus category, she directed the water supply and sanitation department to ensure the proper upkeep of sanitation and other hygiene activities in the villages.
