As the year 2024 comes to an end, the residents of Moga District reflect on a year of substantial development and impactful initiatives by the Punjab Government and district administration. The year witnessed remarkable milestones in sustainable development, welfare schemes, and innovative measures aimed at uplifting the standard of living for its citizens. Deputy Commissioner Mr Vishesh Sarangal shared the facts as under :

Key Highlights of 2024:

Reduction in Stubble Burning:

A significant achievement this year was a 76% reduction in stubble-burning incidents, with only 691 cases reported compared to 2,795 last year. Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal attributed this success to relentless efforts by government officials and cooperation from the farming community.

National Ranking in Development Programs:

Moga secured the 9th position among 122 districts under the Aspirational District Program by NITI Aayog, a testament to its holistic development initiatives.

Health and Education Initiatives:

Yoga for Wellness: The CM’s Yogashala initiative has benefited over 2,958 residents through 90 yoga classes conducted by trained instructors.

Healthcare Expansion: Three new Aam Aadmi Clinics were established, bringing the total to 28 in the district, ensuring accessible healthcare for all.

Upgraded Educational Infrastructure: New buildings were inaugurated for government schools, and solar panels were installed in 31 primary schools at a cost of ₹75.74 lakh.

Enhanced Infrastructure:

Roads spanning over 76 kilometers were repaired at an investment of ₹45 crore, benefiting approximately 160 villages.

A new bus terminal was inaugurated in Dharamkot, providing relief to commuters.

Water and Sanitation:

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, ₹22 crore was spent on rural water supply schemes, ensuring functional household tap connections and clean drinking water to residents.

Power Supply Improvements:

With an investment of ₹14 crore, new transformers and power lines were installed, guaranteeing uninterrupted electricity in rural and urban areas.

Environment-Friendly Irrigation:

Solar-powered pumps and a 10-kilometer pipeline were set up in five villages, utilizing pond water for irrigation and covering 565 acres of farmland.

Promotion of Sustainable Resources:

Public sand mines were opened in five locations to provide affordable sand, and the first-of-its-kind Plant Clinic was established to enhance soil quality and reduce the misuse of fertilizers and pesticides.

Employment and Skill Development:

Over 2,400 candidates were provided jobs, and 1,947 were supported in self-employment ventures.

Collaboration with global companies like IBM, Microsoft, and NASSCOM has introduced online technical training programs for students, set to begin in 2025.

Support for Marginalized Communities:

Aids worth ₹83.16 lakh were distributed to 480 persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

A footwear cluster was established in Rania village, promoting traditional craftsmanship and enhancing global market access.

Looking Ahead:

The year 2024 showcased Moga’s determination to grow sustainably while uplifting its citizens. With ongoing projects such as the largest Treated Water Irrigation Project worth ₹12.87 crore and several new fisheries initiatives, the district is poised for greater advancements in 2025.

The district administration, in collaboration with the Punjab Government, remains committed to ensuring inclusive growth, fostering innovation, and improving the quality of life for its residents.
