State suffered losses worth Rs. 2800 crore due to natural calamities

Member of  Parliament from Mandi Pratibha Singh called on Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Vice Chairman Planning Commission and informed that losses of more than Rs. 2800 crore were occurred to public and private property due to excessive and heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh during current monsoons. She said that State Government had provided Rs. 130 crore to the Deputy Commissioners and related Departments for repair of damaged infrastructure and for relief and rehabilitation work so that normalcy could be restored at the earliest. Smt. Pratibha Singh said that till date 41 people lost their lives due to incessant rains. Maximum number of 23 people died in tribal district of Kinnaur. She said that due to heavy rains and floods, 23871 cattle worth Rs. 5.51 crore have been perished. 3802 houses were damaged and a loss of Rs. 100 crore was estimated to private property. 

She told the Vice Chairman of the Planning Commission that due to heavy floods, 4100 roads were damaged thereby causing a loss of  Rs. 1218.71 crore. The national highway between Wangtu and Samdoh was completely washed away which caused loss of Rs. 40 crore. Smt. Pratibha Singh said that infrastructure of 2622 water supply schemes was also damaged which caused losses worth Rs. 240 crore.  Crops worth Rs. 200 core on 20573 hectares land were also damaged. She said that fruit crops on 81457 hectares of land were also damaged which caused loss of Rs. 323 crore. She said that due to heavy rains in the State power projects suffered a loss of Rs. 455 crore, community property suffered losses of Rs. 165 crore, fisheries suffered a loss of Rs. 5 crore, roads suffered a loss of Rs.12.83 crore and health department suffered a loss of Rs. 1.25 crore.Smt. Pratibha Singh requested the Planning Commission to sanction the long pending developmental projects of the State and to provide liberal financial assistance to the state in various centrally sponsored schemes.
