Despite facing a delay in returning home, NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and her team on the International Space Station (ISS) have spread cheer across the planet by sending heartfelt Christmas wishes. In a glimpse of their Christmas festivities, Sunita Williams and her staff emphasized friendship, gratitude, and the joy of planning.

Celebrating Christmas Aboard the ISS

Sunita Williams wore a festive red T-shirt welcoming viewers aboard the International Space Station in a newly aired video from NASA as the crew prepared for Christmas. "It's a great time here," Williams said, describing the station as a "family" setting where seven astronauts celebrate the holidays together.

Williams revealed that planning is one of her favorite parts of Christmas. She said she was excited about the anticipation and teamwork of preparing for the holidays, and her other crew members agreed. To add a festive touch to their surroundings, the team launched seasonal items and decorated the space station with a modest Christmas tree.

A Message of Connection and Gratitude

Along with the colorful decorations, the film also featured personal words from the crew. They sent their love and best wishes to everyone on the planet, even though they were celebrating far from their families.

Williams' aide emphasized the importance of celebrating Christmas with family and friends while also recognizing the difficulty of being away from loved ones at this time. They praised the ground crew, who put in many hours to support their mission and highlighted the teamwork that keeps the ISS running.

One crew member acknowledged Mission Control personnel around the world who work to guarantee the astronauts' safety and success during the holidays, saying, "I want to thank them for the sacrifices they're making."
