Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday chaired a  key meeting for the metro expansion under the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) from Millennium City Center to the Railway Station, Sector-22, and Cyber City held in Gurugram. Industry Minister Rao Narbir Singh and former MLA Bimla Chaudhary also remained present during the meeting. 

The Chief Minister said that for the convenience of the residents of Gurugram, the expansion of the metro network between Gurugram's Millennium City Center to Railway Station, Sector-22 and Cyber City will be done. 

This project aims to further enhance connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and provide an efficient, eco-friendly transport option for the city. He said that a total investment of Rs. 5452.72 crores will be allocated for the successful completion of the metro expansion project. The construction work is scheduled to begin on May 1, 2025. 

Metro Expansion to be completed in four years

The Chief Minister was apprised that the Metro expansion will take four years to complete. The Chief Minister directed officers concerned to accelerate the work while ensuring minimal inconvenience to residents during construction. 

He directed the officers to create a robust infrastructure to benefit people for the long term. He said that whenever a major infrastructure project is undertaken, the officers concerned should devise a plan that ensures its longevity and provides long-term benefits to the people.

The Metro will be based on Communication-Based Train Control ( CBTC) signaling and will have a maximum speed of 80 km/h

During the meeting, the Chief Minister was apprised that an amount of  Rs 896.19 crore will be spent on this project by the Central Government and Rs 4556.53 crore by the Haryana Government. Under this project, a medium metro will be established and it will operate on standard gauge. 

Besides this, the  Metro will be based on Communication-Based Train Control ( CBTC) signaling and will have a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Initially, it will operate with three coaches, expandable to six.  It was further informed that five underpasses and flyovers will also be constructed as part of the project.

The 28.50 km metro line will have 27 stations

The detailed project report (DPR) for the Metro connecting Millennium City to Cyber City has been approved by the Haryana and Central Governments. Prime Minister, Sh.  Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone on February 16, 2024. The line will include 27 stations, eight of which will be model stations, and one depot.

Geotechnical Investigation for Phase-1 Completed

The Chief Minister was apprised that to establish this metro project, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited is working on identifying eligible candidates for 20 essential posts based on deputation or immediate inclusion, in accordance with the rules and conditions of their parent departments. 

Similarly, the work for the first package (13 km) related to geotechnical investigation has been completed, while civil, architecture, and E&M work has already commenced. Under this project, tenders will be invited by January 31, 2025, for appointing a consultant for the construction of the depot and for the first civil package (Millennium City Centre to Sector-9 and Sector-101 Dwarka, covering a total length of approximately 13 km). 

Additionally, tenders will be invited by February 15, 2025, for the second civil package (Sector-9 to Cyber City, approximately 13 km). An executive committee and a coordination committee have also been formed to oversee the implementation of the metro expansion project.

Discussion on Establishing 10 model Industrial townships

During the meeting, discussions were held on the ruling party's manifesto promise to establish 10 model industrial townships. The proposal for the Panchgram scheme along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway was also reviewed. Furthermore, the Chief Minister directed the officers to develop industrial towns near highways, ensuring employment opportunities and ease of investment. 

These towns should offer industrial, residential, infrastructure, and commercial facilities. The Chief Minister also directed the officers  to ensure swift approvals for investors applying to invest in Haryana. A nodal officer will be appointed to ensure smooth processing, avoiding unnecessary delays for investors.

Meanwhile, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sh. Rajesh Khullar also attended the meeting online and assured that plans for 10 model industrial cities with comprehensive facilities will be prepared and presented during the upcoming budget session.

Chief Secretary, Sh. Vivek Joshi, Principal Advisor, Urban Development, Sh. D.S. Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretaries, Sh. A.K. Singh, Sh. D. Suresh, and Sh. Shyamal  Mishra, Managing Director, Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd, Sh. Chander Shekhar Khare and other officers remained present.
