The Directorate of Agriculture Jammu celebrated Kisan Diwas, also known as National Farmers Day, today in the Conference Hall, Krishi Bhawan. The event was presided over by Director Agriculture Jammu, Arvinder Singh Reen and witnessed the participation of Agriculture Officers and progressive farmers from across the region.

Joint Director Agriculture Extension/SLUB Jammu, Satish Sharma along with other sectoral heads and officers from the Directorate of Agriculture, were also present to mark the occasion. The event aimed to honour the immense contribution of farmers to the agriculture sector, aligning with the national initiative to recognize their hard work and dedication.

As part of the celebrations, several progressive farmers from Jammu were felicitated for their exemplary efforts in enhancing agricultural practices and ensuring food security in the region.

National Farmer's Day is celebrated every year on December 23, marking the birthday of the 5th Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh, a prominent farmer's leader who introduced several policies to improve the lives of Indian farmers.

In his address, the Director emphasized the importance of farmer welfare and the role of modern agricultural practices in boosting productivity. He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting the farming community through various schemes, innovations, and training programs.

The Director also listed the department's ongoing efforts to encourage farmers to adopt scientific agricultural practices, produce quality agri-products, and promote local specialties and high-value exotic vegetables with a special focus on organic farming and value addition.

Additionally, balanced use of chemical fertilizers, quality seeds, seed treatment, weed management, and proper plant protection measures were emphasized for optimal crop production. The Joint Director highlighted the Department of Agriculture Jammu's ongoing efforts to educate and support farmers.

The department is actively involved in a range of extension activities designed to improve soil health and fertility, promote farm mechanization, and enhance the production of food crops and vegetables.

Progressive farmers shared their success stories, discussing how the various schemes provided by the Department of Agriculture have positively impacted their lives. Rajeev Katoch, Programme Officer conducted the proceedings of the Programme.
