Vanvaas Movie Review - If you’re a fan of Nana Patekar, Vanvaas is a movie that you absolutely cannot miss. This emotional drama, directed by Anil Sharma, hits the big screen with a mix of heartache and nostalgia. Starring Nana Patekar, Khushboo, Utkarsh Sharma, and Rajpal Yadav, Vanvaas dives into the harsh realities faced by elderly people abandoned by their families.

From the very first scene, Nana Patekar takes command of the film, making it clear why he’s still one of the finest actors in Indian cinema. His portrayal of Deepak Tyagi, an old man battling dementia and betrayal, is nothing short of breathtaking.

Watching him perform his own last rites in the film's climax is a heart-wrenching experience that stays with you long after the credits roll.

What is Vanvaas About?

The story follows Deepak Tyagi, who is abandoned in Kashi by his three sons and their wives. He loses all forms of identification, his money is stolen, and his fading memory convinces him that his young children are lost. Enter Veeru, played by Utkarsh Sharma, a petty conman who initially sees Deepak as an easy target. However, as Veeru learns more about Deepak’s tragic past, his perspective shifts, leading to a heartfelt journey of redemption and hope.

Why Watch Vanvaas?

-Nana Patekar’s Performance

Nana Patekar is the soul of Vanvaas. His ability to evoke grief, anger, and vulnerability in a single frame is unmatched.

-A Modern-Day Baghban

Much like Baghban (2003), Vanvaas explores themes of familial neglect and emotional isolation. But unlike Amitabh Bachchan’s character, Deepak Tyagi is utterly alone, with even his memories slipping away.

-Supporting Cast

While the supporting cast, including Utkarsh Sharma and Simratt Kaur, tries hard to match Nana’s towering performance, the film ultimately feels like a one-man show.

What Could Have Been Better?

While the emotional core of the film is strong, Vanvaas struggles with its length. At 2 hours and 40 minutes, the movie feels unnecessarily stretched, especially with its lip-synced songs that could have been trimmed. Additionally, the supporting characters often lack depth, making the narrative feel uneven.

How Does Vanvaas Stand Out?

Anil Sharma brings his trademark old-school filmmaking style to life by beautifully capturing the bustling streets of Kashi and Shimla. The cinematography immerses you in these vivid settings, adding layers to the story. However, the movie’s heart remains Nana Patekar’s masterclass in acting, which overshadows its flaws.

Where to Watch Vanvaas?

Vanvaas is currently playing in theaters nationwide. If you’re someone who appreciates emotional dramas with stellar performances, this film deserves a watch on the big screen.

In conclusion, Vanvaas is an emotional rollercoaster that rests entirely on Nana Patekar’s shoulders. Though its outdated storytelling and excessive runtime may distract some viewers, his performance alone is worth the ticket price.
