Team Code Crusher from College of Engineering, CGC Landran, bagged the first prize in the grand finale of Smart India Hackathon, (SIH) 2024, software edition, bringing laurels to the institution. SIH is a prestigious national-level competition held at 51 nodal centres, pan India.
Competing at nodal center Excel Engineering College, Tamil Nadu, this brilliant group of six Computer Science Engineering (CSE) students from CGC comprising Piyush Gupta (team lead), Prerna Jain, Rahul Sharma, Prachi Saini, Priyanshu Chauhan and Ritvik Bhutani, outshone 26 other teams to win a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-, certificates and a trophy for their innovative Project Raahi.
The way to easy travel, a website designed to boost local travel. Developed as a unique solution to a problem statement by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell for boosting the Indian tourism industry particularly in hotels and travels, Raahi is a unique, unified platform which will help travellers plan their itineraries, book trains, flights, hotels and cab services.
This application also comes equipped with user-friendly features such as a chatbot for around-the-clock assistance and an SOS button for emergencies. Elated on their success, team leader Piyush Gupta on behalf of all his team members thanked CGC Landran, their professors and teachers for their encouragement, guidance and support.
He credited his team members for the relentless efforts, dedication, teamwork and confidence in themselves and each other that led them to emerge as winners. Noting that their path to the top was not easy he shared how the team tackled 36 hours of nonstop coding interspersed with three mentoring sessions and three evaluation rounds to clinch the top spot.
Congratulating the winners, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran expressed immense pride in their achievement. They encouraged the students to continue channelizing their creativity, innovative skills and zeal for societal progress and national development.
They also underlined CGC’s vision to inculcate an affinity for research and innovation in its students and faculty through an industry-aligned curriculum and opportunities for collaboration in Research and Development with government and private partners.
Designed to promote out-of-the-box thinking among young minds, particularly engineering students from across India, SIH 2024 seeks to address pressing problems faced by government departments and private organizations, through innovative solutions developed by students.
It is acclaimed to be the world’s biggest open innovation model and is held in two formats i.e. SIH Software and SIH Hardware editions.
