To commemorate India’s historic victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, a grand Victory Day Parade was organized in Fazilka. The parade, dedicated to the memory of the war heroes, was jointly conducted by the Shaheedi Smarak Committee Asafwala, the district administration, and the Indian Army.

The parade began at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Market near the District Administrative Complex and passed through Sanjeev Cinema Chowk, Gaushala Road, Cycle Bazaar, and Shastri Chowk, concluding at Ghanta Ghar.

It was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, IAS, and SSP Varinder Singh. While participating in the parade, the Deputy Commissioner met the veterans of the 1971 war and the families of the martyred soldiers.

She expressed deep gratitude for their sacrifices, stating that the martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation will never be forgotten. She reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to the welfare of their families.

The parade witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students, who raised slogans of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai," and local residents, who warmly welcomed the procession with floral showers at multiple locations.

The Indian Army band, accompanied by school children, performed patriotic songs to honor the sacrifices of the brave soldiers. A grand ceremony marked the conclusion of the parade at Ghanta Ghar Chowk.

Brigadier Sushil Chandwani and Colonel (Retd.) MS Gill addressed the gathering. Colonel Gill shared memories of the 1971 war with the attendees. Children from the School of Eminence, Fazilka, added to the celebratory spirit with a vibrant Bhangra performance.

The families of the martyred soldiers and ex-servicemen participated in the event with great enthusiasm. Fazilka’s residents extended heartfelt respect and admiration for the sacrifices made by the soldiers.

Mr. Sandeep Gilhotra, President of the Shaheedi Smarak Committee, thanked everyone for contributing to the event's success and emphasized the pride Fazilka takes in its valiant armed forces.

Prominent attendees included ADC Subhash Chandra, SDM Kanwarjit Singh Mann, Prafull Nagpal, Shashikant, officials from the Indian Army, the police department, district administration, students from various schools, and esteemed citizens of Fazilka.
