As part of the International Gita Mahotsav, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC),Ambala, under the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises,Government of India, and KVIC, is organising a five-day exhibition at Haryana Pavilion, near Purshottampura Bagh, from December 12 to16,2024.
The exhibition features earthen utensils and handmade herbal products, where visitors are learning about their benefits and also showing great interest in purchasing them. Assistant Director of Khadi and Village Industries(KVIC), Ambala, Sh. Rakesh Sharma said that this exhibition aligns with the Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering artisans and promoting self-employment.
The aim is to provide a marketing platform to artisans and organisations associated with Khadi and Village Industries development schemes, such as the Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana and the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).The exhibition features 20 stalls displaying earthen utensils and herbal products handcrafted by artisans from various districts of Haryana.
Sh. Jagat Singh Hooda from the department stated that KVIC supports artisans not only with financial assistance but also by providing modern tools and machinery. These tools help artisans produce high-quality clay and herbal products. Workshops are also regularly organised to showcase and sell their products.
Apart from this, young individuals interested in starting their own ventures are offered financial aid and equipment to establish self-employment opportunities, helping them become self-reliant.Rajbir, an artisan from Jhajjar who attended the exhibition, shared his story.
A graduate and skilled pottery artist, Rajbir faced financial challenges but found support through KVIC. The department assisted him in setting up his business by providing financial aid and technical support. Today, he earns a good income from selling his clay products, with his family members also contributing to the business.
