No nomination paper was filed by any candidate on the first day of the making nominations for the elections of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar scheduled to be held on December 21 by the State Election Commission. Divulging the details, District Election Officer Cum Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that the SEC has appointed 12 Returning Officers and 12 Assistant Returning Officers for ensuring smooth conduct of nominations in the city.
He mentioned that nomination papers for ward numbers 1-7 to be received by Executive Engineer Jalandhar Improvement Trust at the premises of JIT Jalandhar. Likewise, papers for wards 8-14 to be taken by Environmental Engineer PPCB Jatinder Soni at Regional Office PPCB 2nd floor Midland Finance Centre, for wards 14-21 by EE Bist Doab Canal Davinder Singh at his office Bist Doab Canal near Kapurthala Chowk, for wards 22-28 by EE Public health at the JDA premises, for wards 29-35 by EE Water Supply and Sanitation Jaskaran Singh at premises of water supply and sanitation Manbrow Chowk, for wards 36-42 by EE Mining Sartaj Singh at the premises of Mining and Geology at Kapurthala Chowk, for wards 43-49 by EE Civil JDA Charanjit Singh at Bachat Bhawan DC Complex, for wards 50-56 by EE Electric Division PWD Rajesh Chanana at PWD, B&R Campus Jalandhar Cantt Road, for wards 57-63 by EE Water Supply and Sanitation Navjot Singh at water supply and Sanitation office backside PUDA complex, for wards 64-70 by Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Gurwinderjit Singh at his premises opposite General Post Office, for wards 71-77 by EE Punjab Mandi Board Daljit Singh Chaudhary at his office at 1st Floor New Sabji Mandi Maqsudan, and for wards 78-85 nominations to be recieved by District Town Planner Sunjay Kumar at his office situated at 3rd floor, room no 303 District Administrative Complex, Jalandhar.
He mentioned that Assistant Returning Officers were also appoined by the SEC assist all the ROs. Chairing a review meeting with all the ROs and AROs, the Deputy Commissioner asked all the officers to perform their duty diligently to ensure free, fair and transparent elections for civic bodies.
He said that any sort of callousness in performing duty was not at all tolerable. He mentioned that as the proper training of Election Staff was already conducted according to SEC guidelines, he directed them to ensure smooth conduct of elections without any dereliction of the election duty.
The DC stated that nomination papers can be submitted to the offices of the Returning Officers from December 12 between 11 AM to 3 PM. He mentioned that the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on December 13, and nomination papers can be withdrawn on December 14.
He further informed that voting will take place on December 21, and the counting will also be conducted on the same day.
