As the nation gears up to commemorate Vijay Diwas, the iconic Panther Division under the Vajra Corps of the Western Command, in partnership with the Amritsar District Administration, hosted the spectacular Victory Run: Amritsar Half Marathon. This electrifying event celebrated the indomitable courage, valor, and supreme sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces during the historic 1971 Indo-Pak War.

The marathon attracted a vibrant mix of participants – spirited college students, energetic youth, disciplined NCC cadets, dedicated sportspersons, and citizens of all ages, united in their love for the nation. The 21-km Half Marathon, flagged off by Maj Gen Kartik C Sheshadri, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Panther Division, commenced at CP-7, Khasa, and culminated at the iconic Attari-Wagah Border, a site that resonates with patriotism.

Adding to the event’s grandeur, the 10-km and 5-km races were launched by  Cabinet Minister S Harbhajn Singh, Brig Harcharan Singh (Retd), an Olympic legend and Arjuna Awardee, and Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar. A heartwarming 1-km Fun Run was also organized, featuring 22 specially-abled children, showcasing the inclusive spirit of the celebration.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Maj Gen Kartik C Sheshadri, VSM, and Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney lauded the participants for their incredible energy and patriotic zeal. They called upon everyone to remember and honor the unparalleled sacrifices of India’s armed forces and their families. The dignitaries also highlighted the urgent need to combat the growing menace of drug abuse and inspired the audience to take an active role in building a healthier, drug-free society.

The Victory Run was not just a marathon; it was a vibrant tribute to the heroes of 1971, a celebration of unity, and a clarion call to uphold the values of patriotism, fitness, and social responsibility.
