The Central University of Punjab came together to celebrate “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas,” a day dedicated to honoring the rich contributions of India’s tribal communities to our nation’s history and culture. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, the university organized a heartfelt event, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghvendra Prasad Tiwari, who shared his reflections on the life and legacy of the revered tribal leader Birsa Munda.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tiwari spoke warmly of Birsa Munda, describing him as an inspiring figure who taught us all to respect nature and stand up for justice. “Birsa Munda’s empathy drove him to fight for others,” Prof. Tiwari said. “His example reminds us that our connection to nature is essential for our future.”

As a tribute to this legacy, the Vice-Chancellor announced that the university’s ground-floor seminar hall will now bear the name of Birsa Munda, symbolizing the enduring impact of his life and ideals. The program included a lecture by Dr. Hareet Kumar Meena, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of History, who shared Birsa Munda’s journey from his early years to his role as a freedom fighter.

Dr. Meena highlighted Birsa’s deep sense of responsibility for his people and the environment, noting his efforts to defend the rights of farmers to water, forests, and land. “Birsa Munda unified people for a shared cause, showing the power of resilience and community,” Dr. Meena shared.

To further celebrate the day, the university also held a speech competition. The competition was a vibrant display of student talent and passion, with Kritika Bhatta securing first place, Manuja Hicchi coming in second, and Pawandeep Singh taking third.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. L.T. Sasang Guite, Associate Professor in the Department of Geography, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to everyone who came together to make the day memorable. Dr. Mahesh Kumar Meena, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies, anchored the event, adding warmth and spirit to the celebration.
