Health and Family Welfare Minister of Punjab Dr. Balbir Singh said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is fully committed to strengthen infrastructure of health sector to provide best services in the state.
Dr. Balbir Singh was here to preside over the district level meeting of Vector Borne Disease Control Program at Civil Hospital Sangrur in the presence of MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj and Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Rishi.
While talking to journalists on this occasion, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that the Punjab government will start construction of new government medical colleges in 4 other districts.
He said that construction of these new government medical colleges at Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala Sangrur and Malerkotla will start within next six months.
Health Minister said that patient facilitation centers will be established in the emergency wards of government hospitals of Punjab, under which only one relative of the patient will be able to enter the emergency ward as an assistant, while medical and paramedical staff will be available to assist the patient.
He said that this is being done to manage the overcrowding in the emergency wards. Health and Family Welfare Minister said that as compared to the previous years, there has been a sharp decrease in dengue cases in Punjab this year as the Health Department is constantly keeping vigilance in this regard.
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, continuous meaningful steps are being taken to make government hospitals of the state better than private hospitals by providing the best health facilities in all aspects.
He said that Farishtay Scheme, Sadak Surakhya Force and 108 Ambulance Services are proving to be beneficial in saving the precious lives of not only the patients of Punjab but also the people of any state who got injured in road accidents within the boundaries of Punjab.
Health Minister said that the availability of medicines within the hospital has been ensured to meet the requirements of the patients so that the practice of writing prescriptions for bringing medicines from outside can be completely stopped.
On this occasion, Cabinet Minister was accompanied by MLA Sangrur Narinder Kaur Bharaj, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Rishi, Civil Surgeon Dr. Kirpal Singh accompanied the minister during his visit to various wards of the Sangrur Civil Hospital and interacted with the patients and their relatives in various wards and obtained feedback regarding the medicines, treatment facilities, doctors and paramedical staff.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that the patients were satisfied with the treatment facilities and medicines etc. but there was need for further improvements in the bathroom and cleanliness arrangements, for which major improvements will be ensured soon.
