Senior BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, former State President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), has voiced strong concerns over the inclusion of leaders from other political parties, particularly from Congress, into the BJP. Grewal's remarks come amidst growing speculation about Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, formerly with Congress, who reportedly feels stifled within the party.
In a conversation today, Grewal expressed the concerns of many BJP cadres, who have repeatedly cautioned the party's high command against inducting leaders from outside parties. He highlighted that many of these new entrants, particularly from Congress, lack understanding of the BJP’s core ideology and seem to join merely to clear their names of past allegations of corruption.
Citing the case of Sunil Jakhar as an example, Grewal said that his unease within the BJP reflects the deeper ideological divide between those rooted in the BJP and RSS's principles and those who switch sides for political gain. "It is a widely acknowledged reality—almost written on the wall—that many Congress leaders who joined the BJP to escape scrutiny from agencies like the ED, CBI, or Income Tax may return to Congress when it becomes politically convenient," he remarked.
Grewal warned that this trend of opportunistic defections poses a significant risk to the future of the BJP. He reiterated his opposition to the inclusion of self-serving politicians from other parties, stating that their lack of alignment with BJP and RSS values could have damaging long-term consequences for the party’s prospects.
