Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, inaugurated the two-day 'Inquilab Mela' today at Khatkar Kalan, commemorating the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Sond emphasized that Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh is a source of pride not just for India, but for the entire world, and reaffirmed the Punjab government's dedication to building a nation that aligns with his revolutionary ideals.
While congratulating the nation on Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary, Sond highlighted that Punjab, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is remembering the legacy of this great martyr. He mentioned that the Punjab government has revived the tradition of organizing fairs and events like the 'Inquilab Mela' to inspire the youth of Punjab by reconnecting them with the revolutionary ideologies of heroes like Bhagat Singh.
Sond recalled that Chief Minister Mann took his oath of office at Khatkar Kalan and noted that images of the freedom struggle's real heroes are now displayed in government offices across Punjab. He also mentioned the renaming of Mohali Airport in honor of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, as a tribute to the martyr's contributions.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Minister Sond. Several notable figures, including Cabinet Ministers Harbhajan Singh ETO and Mohinder Bhagat, Lok Sabha Member Malwinder Singh Kang, Deputy Speaker Jai Krishna Singh, MLA Santosh Kataria, and Dr. Sukhwinder Sukhi, were also in attendance.
The two-day 'Inquilab Mela' features a variety of cultural programs, including performances by renowned singers and artists, and presentations from students of various schools and colleges. Dramas depicting the life and contributions of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, along with exhibitions and stalls, have been set up to enrich the experience of visitors.
Minister Sond praised the district administration for their excellent organization of the event. He also took the opportunity to honor the family members of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Punjab’s para-athletes. Secretary of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Malwinder Singh Jaggi, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman, Binnu Dhillon and SSP Dr. Mehtab Singh were among the many dignitaries and attendees who participated in the mela's celebrations.
