To ensure that the Haryana Assembly General Elections-2024 are conducted in a completely fair and transparent manner, all guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India, along with the Model Code of Conduct, are being strictly followed. To prevent voters from being influenced by any form of inducement, the Commission is maintaining a rigorous stance, and various agencies are closely monitoring the movement of illegal liquor, narcotics, and cash in the state.
From August 16 to September 25, 2024, a total of Rs. 54.46 crore worth of illegal liquor, narcotics, cash, and valuable items have been seized in the state. Apart from it, the investigation of various intercepted items worth Rs. 14 crore is also underway.
Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. Pankaj Agarwal said that Haryana Police, along with other agencies, is continuously maintaining strict vigilance. He said that since the Model Code of Conduct came into effect, actions have been taken by the Police Department, Income Tax Department, Excise and Taxation Department, State Goods and Services Tax, Railway Protection Force, and Narcotics Control Bureau.
3,88,429 Litres of Illegal Liquor worth Rs. 12.87 Crore Seized
Sh. Agarwal further informed that over Rs. 18.82 crore in cash have been seized by the police, Income Tax Department, and State Goods and Services Tax departments. In addition, various agencies have seized more than 3,88,429 litres of illegal liquor worth over Rs. 12.87 crore.
This includes over 2,74,449 litres of illegal liquor worth more than Rs. 9.24 crore seized by the Haryana police, and over 1,12,677 litres worth more than Rs. 3.55 crore seized by the Excise and Taxation Department. Apart from this, RPF, State Goods and Services Tax and other agencies have seized 1,303 litres of illegal liquor worth over Rs. 7 lakh.
Narcotics worth Rs. 8.46 Crore Seized by Various Agencies
Sh. Agarwal further said that agencies have seized over 2,866 kgs of narcotics worth more than Rs. 8.46 crore. Among these, the police seized narcotics worth more than Rs. 7.62 crore, the Narcotics Control Bureau seized narcotics worth Rs. 59 lakh, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized narcotics worth Rs. 0.35 lakh. Other agencies have also seized narcotics worth over Rs. 24 lakh.
Sh. Agarwal said that the state police and other agencies have seized valuable metals (Gold, Silver etc.) worth more than Rs. 9.05 crore, totaling 97,602 grams. Apart from this, state police and other agencies have seized other items worth more than Rs. 5.23 crore.
