Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led the Punjab Government resumed the sports culture in the state by introducing Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan to give equal opportunities to the budding players to excel at National and International level tourneys, said the MLA SAS Nagar Kulwant Singh Mohali here today. 

Kicking off the District Level Competitions of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan Season 3 at Mohali’s Sector 78 Sports Complex along with Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, MLA Kulwant Singh said that the Punjab Government has been promoting the sports from the ground level by nurturing the budding players by setting up sports nurseries for various games.

It is the first time in the state that the Asian Games and Olympic Games’ participants were given cash amounts of Rs 8 lakh and 15 lakh respectively for getting prepared before the start of games. Similarly, the medal winners have been felicitated with cash prizes worth Crores besides offering lucrative jobs of high ranks. 

Congratulating the hundreds of sportspersons present at the opening ceremony of district-level competitions, he said that It is the right time and platform to show your worth and set the stage for eyeing National and International competitions. 

He said that the gala event started by the State has 37 competitions at district and state level starting from 14 years age group to 70 + age group. The winners would be felicitated with cash prizes worth Rs 9 Crore by the State, he further said.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain while offering well wishes to the sportspersons said that the district administration has been overseeing all the arrangements done for the smooth conduct of sports.ADC (UD) Damanjit Singh Mann, SDM Mohali Deepankar Garg and District Sports Officer Rupesh Begra were also present at the opening ceremony. 

Day 1 of ‘Kheda Watan Punjab Diyan -3’ witnessed 7 competitions of various games with the list of winners as follows:

Football U-14 Boys:

• BHS Arya beat NIS School Kharar 2-0

Football U-17 Girls:

• Match 1 - Coaching Centre-78 beat Tangori School 4-0.

• Match 2 - Shamrock School Sector-69 beat Kanya Kurali 1-0.

Kho-Kho U-14 Girls:

• Final Results: First Place - Govt High School Rani Majra,

Second place - Govt Sen Sec School Daulat Singh Wala,

Third place - Govt Middle School Phase-2

Kho-Kho U-17 Girls:

• Final Results: 1st Place - Govt Sen Sec School Kurali

Second place – Govt High School Faatwan 

Third place – Govt High School Manakpur

Weight Lifting U-14 (+67 kg) Boys:

• Immanveer Singh bagged the first position.

• Arnav got second position.

Weight Lifting U-17 (73 kg) Boys:

• Jobandeep Singh secured the first position.

• Kamaljit Singh bagged second position.

Weight Lifting U-17 (81 kg) Boys:

• Prince took first place.

• Sonu secured second position.
