The Youth Akali Dal (YAD) today appealed to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to direct the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to dismiss education minister Harjot Bains and suspend Superintendent of Police (SP) Jyoti Yadav besides instituting a Punjab and Haryana High Court monitored probe into the Rs 100 crore cyber crime scam allegations against the husband –wife duo.
Addressing a press conference here, YAD President Sarabjit Singh Jhinjher also appealed to the Governor to direct the AAP government to forward the case to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for a thorough probe as it also involved money laundering.
Asserting that this was important as the Special Investigating Team (SIT) instituted by the State government to probe the case could not hold a cabinet minister to account, Mr Sarabjit Jhinjher said “there is no logic to form a SIT in such a situation”. He said Punjabis also felt that the SIT could be used to give a clean chit to the minister and that was why a high court monitored probe plus investigation by the Enforcement Directorate alone could bring out the truth in the case.
Mr Jhinjher said the YAD would also approach the Governor to plead for a free and fair probe into the entire matter. He also announced that in case the AAP government did not relent and continued to shield the tainted minister then the YAD would show him black flags wherever he went besides holding protest dharnas.
Asserting that the Rs 100 crore scam’s tentacles could stretch to Delhi, Mr Jhinjher said “Harjot Bains is a blue eyed boy of AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal and this is why no action is being taken against him. National agencies also need to probe this huge amount vis a vis the funding received by AAP for hiring aircraft as well as extensive campaigning in other States”.
Mr Jhinjher said the whistleblower in the case – Inspector Amanjot Kaur should also get justice. “The Inspector has in a representation to the State DGP disclosed how she was pressurized by SP Jyoti Yadav, who is posted in Mohali, to favour the accused”.
He said the Inspector had also disclosed that Vijay Raj Kapooria, who was running the illegal cyber centre from a house in Mohali, was a close colleague of minister Harjot Bains. “This is why an impartial probe is needed against the husband – wife duo of Bains and Yadav”.
The YAD chief said a separate probe should also be launched to find out how NRIs had been targeted and defrauded of their money. He said it was most important to instill faith in the NRI community. “NRIs rallied behind AAP during the last assembly elections and extended their whole hearted support to the party. Now they are being scammed but the AAP government is yet to launch a probe into this crime”, he added.
