The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Friday, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government of threatening the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi through a Delhi BJP Leader Tarvinder Singh Marvaha.
Addressing the press conference at the All India Congress Committee office in Delhi, Bajwa along with former Punjab Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi said that threatening the elected representative and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lower House of the Parliament is highly deplorable.
"Earlier, Bollywood actress and BJP MP from Mandi Kangana Ranaut made extremely objectionable remarks against the farmers. However, the BJP failed to take action against her. If the BJP didn't acknowledge the Kanagana's remarks against farmers, she should have been expelled from the party", Bajwa added.
Endorsing Rahul Gandhi's speech in the US, Bajwa said that whenever the BJP government in the centre dares to attempt injustice to any section of society including Dalits, minorities, or other unprivileged sections, the Congress Party will stand firm with these people. The situation in the country at the moment has been such that people are being targeted based on language, religion, and caste.
"The BJP distorted his (Rahul Gandhi's) statement. The views expressed by Rahul Gandhi in the US elicited tremendous support from Punjab because what he said was true to a large extent", Bajwa added. Senior Congress Leader Bajwa, while pointing fingers at the BJP Leaders including Hardeep Singh Puri and Iqbal Singh Lalpura, said that why they didn't utter a single word when the protesting Sikh farmers were demonised by calling Khalistani terrorists.
"Protesting farmers including Sikhs in Lakhimpur Kheri were killed by BJP leader Ashish Mishra, son of former minister Ajay Mishra Teni. Neither Puri nor Lalpura condemned the incident", Bajwa added. The opposition leader said that protesting farmers mainly Sikhs at Shambhu and Khanauri borders were brutalised by the BJP-led Haryana government. Young Sikh farmer, Shubhkaran Singh was murdered at the border. None of these two leaders spoke anything.
