The first Teacher's Day was celebrated on Radhakrishnan's birthday. It was celebrated on Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan's 77th birthday i.e. in 1962 AD. The tradition of celebrating Teacher's Day started when his disciples contacted him and wanted to celebrate his birthday.
Who Was Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan?
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888. Apart from being a teacher of India, he was also an Indian politician. He was the first and second President of India. Due to his talent related to education, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan received 16 nominations for Nobel Prize in literature and 11 for peace. Along with this, he has also been honored with many other awards such as knighthood in 1931, Bharat Ratna in 1954 and honorary membership of the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963.
