In a significant move to address the dire issues faced by the residents of Gidderbaha and Muktsar, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and Member of Parliament from Ludhiana, filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the State of Punjab regarding the overflowing sewerage water in these regions.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court, taking cognizance of the matter, has issued a notice to the State of Punjab and scheduled the hearing for 20th September 2024.In response to the PIL, the government’s lawyer attempted to deflect the issue by alleging that Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s actions were politically motivated, aimed at influencing the upcoming by-elections.
However, the court firmly stated that as a public representative, the PPCC Chief has every right to raise the concerns of the people he represents. The court has directed the government to submit a compliance report detailing the measures taken to resolve the sewerage issues.
Despite numerous complaints and the visible impact on public health, the state administration has failed to take any substantial action to resolve the crisis.Raja Warring, in a scathing statement, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government, accusing them of not only failing to perform their duties but also attempting to suppress the voice of the opposition.
The AAP government has consistently shown a complete disregard for the problems faced by the people of Punjab. When legitimate concerns are raised, instead of taking action, they try to paint it as a political stunt. This is nothing but an attempt to deviate from the actual issues that affect the daily lives of our citizens. This is not just an issue of sewage overflow; it is an issue of public health and human dignity." said Warring.
Warring further criticized the AAP government's strategy to divert attention from its failures by attacking those who hold them accountable. "It is unfortunate that instead of solving the problems of the common man, the AAP government is busy building a false narrative to protect its image.
This PIL is not about politics; it’s about ensuring that the people of Gidderbaha and Muktsar get the basic amenities they deserve. The government’s attempt to silence the opposition is a direct attack on democracy," he added. He further added, "My duty as a public representative is to ensure that the voices of the people are heard, and their problems are addressed.
The ruling government must stop pushing false narratives and start focusing on the real issues. We will ensure that action is taken and the work is done for the people."The PPCC Chief vowed to continue his fight for the rights of the people and urged the AAP government to focus on governance rather than playing political games.
