As the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir draw closer, a total of 26 candidates have filed nomination papers in two key constituencies in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The constituencies involved are Pulwama Main (34) and Rajpora (35).
According to sources, among the 26 potential candidates, two women have filed their Nomination papers to the respective Returning Officers in the district. Specifically, 14 candidates have filed Nominations for the 34 Pulwama constituency, while 12 candidates have filed Nomination papers for 35 Rajpora Constituency.
Almost all regional parties, including the PDP, NC, Congress (Alliance), BJP, AIP, Aam Aadmi Party, NCP, Rastriya Lok Janshakti Party have shown interest in contesting the upcoming elections in these constuiencies. However,in Rajpora Constituency there are 2 independent candidates while in Pulwama 8 independent candidates who filed Nomination papers on last day.
The Pulwama district, comprising 4 Assembly Constituencies, allows candidates to submit their nominations until August 27 was last day. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on August 28 by the Returning Officers. Candidates may withdraw their nominations until August 30.Thereafter, validly nominated candidates will be in the electoral fray.The elections are scheduled to take place on September 18, 2024 for the ist phase.
For the four Assembly Constuencies in Pulwama district, 16 candidates have filed nomination from 32-Pampore Constituency; 13 candidates have filed nomination from 33-Tral Constituency, 14 candidates have filed nomination from 34-Pulwama Constituency while 12 candidates have filed nomination from 35-Rajpora Constituency.
Pulwama district has a total voter count of 4, 07 637 which includes 2,02 475 male voters, 2, 05,141 female voters, and 21 transgender voters across its four Assembly Constituency Pampore, Tral, Pulwama and Rajpora. A network of 481 polling stations has been set up across the district to accommodate the voters.
Assembly Constituencies
Assembly Constituency (AC) 32 - Pampore has registered voter base, with a total of 1,00,383 registered voters, including 49,697 males, 50,680 females, and 6 transgender individuals. To accommodate these voters, 120 polling stations have been allocated within this constituency, underscoring its importance in the district's electoral framework.
AC 33 - Tral has 98,156 registered voters, comprised of 48,801 males, 49,348 females, and 7 transgender individuals. The constituency is set to conduct its electoral process across 116 polling stations, ensuring comprehensive voter coverage.
AC 34 - Pulwama features a total of 99,555 voters, with 49,423 males, 50,130 females, and 2 transgender individuals. For this constituency, 112 polling stations have been designated to manage the electoral process effectively.
AC 35 - Rajpora emerged as the largest constituency within the district, with a total of 1,09,543 registered voters, including 54,554 males, 54,983 females, and 6 transgender.
Pulwama District is fully prepared to manage the voting process with precision and accessibility. Dedicated 24/7 control rooms have been established, equipped with voter helplines and tasked with monitoring Flying Squad Teams and Static Surveillance Teams.
These control rooms also manage any violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) reported through the C-Vigil platform and serve as the central hub for granting various permissions, including those related to campaigning.
