Giving a major relief to the thousands of daily commuters, MLA Derabassi Kuljit Singh Randhawa, today, kick-started the re-construction of Pavements and Approaches of the Bhankharpur-Mubarkpur railway under bridge at Mubarakpur. The work will be completed at a cost of Rs 166.26 lakhs in a record six months. Divulging the more details, the MLA Randhawa while expressing gratitude to the Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann for acceding to residents’ major demand by releasing funds to the tune of Rs 126.26 lakh, said that the Punjab Chief Minister was apprised of the major problem of the daily commuters during his Bhankharpu visit.
The Chief Minister had assured that the state government would bear all the cost required for the re-construction (of Pavements and Approaches) of the Railway Under Bridge, in the public interest and now he has kept his word and approved the entire cost on behalf of the State, further said MLA Randhawa. He said that due to the previous year's floods and heavy vehicular traffic, the condition of the RUB deteriorated and was made motor-able till the reconstruction proposal matured.
He said that with the release of funds for the reconstruction of the approaches and pavement of the Railway under Bridge, the biggest problem of the area residents would be resolved permanently. He said that keeping in mind the heavy vehicular traffic and stormwater, this time the Public Works Department has planned the re-construction of the pavement of the Railway under Bridge portion and approaches in such a way that a total of 600 mm layer of material would be used including a final layer of M-40 concrete.
He said that with the completion of the re-construction work in a record six-month period, the Railway under Bridge would be thrown open again to cater for Sundran, Khedi, Bhankharpur, Pandwala and Daffarpur villages for daily commuting. The others among the officers present there included Sub Divisional Magistrate Derabassi Dr Himanshu Gupta, Executive Engineer, PWD Provincial Division-2, Patiala, Manpreet Singh Dua, SDO Jaspal Singh.
