Chandigarh BJP President Jatinder Pal Malhotra and member of National Executive BJP Sanjay Tandon today met Manohar Lal Khattar, Union minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, in Delhi and requested him to expedite the process to start metro in Chandigarh Tricity. The BJP highlighted the pressing need for the establishment of a metro system in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas, collectively known as the Tricity.

In its letter submitted to the Union minister, the BJP said over the past decade, Chandigarh and the surrounding regions witnessed exponential growth, leading to a surge in the demand for a reliable and efficient public transportation system. Despite the commendable efforts of the Chandigarh Administration to bolster the existing bus and road transport networks, the current infrastructure is unable to fully meet the escalating requirements of the populace.

"Recognizing the urgency of the situation, we advocate for the quick implementation of a metro system as an essential alternative public transport mode. Therefore, we humbly urge you to address the escalating transportation needs effectively. We seek your kind assistance in expediting the necessary procedures for the proposed metro project," said the BJP.

The party President, said, "The metro is the future of this region. Road traffic is increasing day by day. Though, the Narendra Modi-led centre government has already approved metro to provide relief to the people in future. There is a long process involved in setting up the project, but we want want the work should be expedited. We also discussed other issues related to the city."
