UT Cricket Association and Chandigarh Police sponsored Gully Cricket being played under the slogan 'Balla Ghumao, Nasha Bachao' saw a nail biting encounter at PCA stadium yesterday late night. In an exhibition match, DPR XI team of the Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab beat team of journalists of Tricity & Sports journalists by 6 runs. Adil Azmi from the DPR team was named Man of the Match.
The Captain of the DPR team Navdeep Singh Gill won the toss and chose to bat first. The team scored 59 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 10 overs. For the winning team, Adil Azmi scored the highest 21 runs while Randeep scored 9, Amrit 6 and Navdeep remained not out on 6. From sports journalists side, Sandeep Kaushik took 3 and Gaurav Marwaha & Lallan Yadav took a wicket each.
Chasing the target of 60 runs, the sports journalists team scored 54 runs in the 10 overs for the loss of 7 wickets thus falling short by just 6 runs. Gaurav Marwaha was the top scorer with 27 runs. From the DPR side, Amit Kumar, Jaswant Singh, Adil Azmi and Mukesh Kumar claimed a scalp each. Adil Azmi took a catch and was instrumental in running out a rival player.
The President UTCA Mr. Sanjay Tandon honoured the Man of the Match player besides both the teams. On behalf of both the teams, Saurabh Duggal and Navdeep Gill thanked the organizers & praised the initiative.
