Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has taken a unique initiative of commissioning seven solar trees of 5 kW (total capacity of 35 kW) at different locations of Patiala. Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO, Punjab Power Minister inaugurated the project on Wednesday.
One solar tree has been installed at the head office of PSPCL and other six solar trees have been installed in the power colonies of PSPCL at Patiala. Solar trees are innovative structures designed to harness solar energy while resembling trees. Power Minister Mr Harbhajan Singh ETO stated that Solar trees provide a clean and renewable energy source, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
"These solar trees will generate around 52000 units of electricity per year, which can save approximately 41 tons of Carbon dioxide emissions per year which is equivalent to planting about 1015 nos. of mature trees in terms of CO2 absorption,"said the minister. "The solar trees serve as educational tools, promoting awareness of renewable energy and sustainability.
The trees have an aesthetically pleasing design and enhance the visual appeal of public spaces, parks, and buildings, blending technology with nature," he added. The Minister also added that the Solar trees occupy less ground space compared to traditional solar panels, making them ideal for urban environments and areas with limited space.
Elevated solar panels can capture more sunlight, avoiding shadows and obstructions present at ground level. The minister further added that overall, solar trees represent a multifunctional and sustainable approach to solar energy generation, blending technology, aesthetics, and environmental benefits.

ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਗਤੀਸ਼ੀਲ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਟੇਟ ਪਾਵਰ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਲਿਮਟਿਡ (ਪੀ.ਐਸ.ਪੀ.ਸੀ.ਐਲ) ਨੇ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ 'ਤੇ 5 ਕਿਲੋਵਾਟ ਦੇ ਸੱਤ ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ (ਕੁੱਲ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ 35 ਕਿਲੋਵਾਟ) ਚਾਲੂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਪਹਿਲਕਦਮੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਅੱਜ ਇਥੇ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ. ਹਰਭਜਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਈ.ਟੀ.ਓ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਸੱਤ ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ, ਇੱਕ ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਪੀ.ਐਸ.ਪੀ.ਸੀ.ਐਲ ਦੇ ਹੈੱਡ ਆਫਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਛੇ ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੀ.ਐਸ.ਪੀ.ਸੀ.ਐਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਾਵਰ ਕਾਲੋਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਾਏ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਨਵੀਨਤਾਕਾਰੀ ਢਾਂਚੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੂਰਜੀ ਊਰਜਾ ਦਾ ਉਪਯੋਗ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਡਿਜ਼ਾਈਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਇਥੇ ਜਿਕਰਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੀ.ਐਸ.ਪੀ.ਸੀ.ਐਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਇਮਾਰਤਾਂ 'ਤੇ 31 ਮੈਗਾਵਾਟ ਸੋਲਰ ਪਾਵਰ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਲਈ ਟੈਂਡਰਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਜਲੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ. ਹਰਭਜਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਈਟੀਓ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਸਾਫ਼ ਅਤੇ ਨਵਿਆਉਣਯੋਗ ਊਰਜਾ ਸਰੋਤ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਜੀਵਾਸ਼ਮ ਈਂਧਨ 'ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਗ੍ਰੀਨਹਾਊਸ ਗੈਸ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਘਟਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਬਿਜਲੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ,"ਇਹ ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਲਗਭਗ 52,000 ਯੂਨਿਟ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨਗੇ, ਜੋ ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਲਗਭਗ 41 ਟਨ ਕਾਰਬਨ ਡਾਈਆਕਸਾਈਡ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਕਾਰਬਨਡਾਈਆਕਸਾਈਡ ਸੋਖਣ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਲਗਭਗ 1015 ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ।“
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ,"ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਣਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਧਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਨਵਿਆਉਣਯੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਊਰਜਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਿਜ਼ਾਈਨ ਸੁਹਜਾਤਮਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਜਨਤਕ ਥਾਵਾਂ, ਪਾਰਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਮਾਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।“
ਬਿਜਲੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ. ਹਰਭਜਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਈ.ਟੀ.ਓ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਸੋਲਰ ਪੈਨਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਘੱਟ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰੀ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਅਤੇ ਸੀਮਤ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਆਦਰਸ਼ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉੱਚੇ ਸੋਲਰ ਪੈਨਲ ਜ਼ਮੀਨੀ ਪੱਧਰ 'ਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਪਰਛਾਵਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦਿਆਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਧੁੱਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਸੋਲਰ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਸੂਰਜੀ ਊਰਜਾ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁ-ਕਾਰਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਦੀ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ, ਸੁਹਜ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਲਾਭਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਮੇਲ ਹੈ।
