Presiding over a meeting of the Forest Department here today, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed serious concern over the forest fire incidents and directed the department to take concerted efforts to address the issue. He instructed them to initiate long term measures along with the immediate initiatives to curb the problem.
He stressed on the people's participation in these efforts and said that the numbers of forest fire incidents are gradually decreasing. The Chief Minister said that 1318 fire incidents have been recorded so far this year, affecting 12718 hectares of land including 2789 hectares plantation area causing the preliminary financial loss of Rs. 4.61 crore.
He said that to mitigate these losses, the State Government is contemplating to form a dedicated battalion of NDRF specially equipped and trained for fire fighting to reduce the losses to the forest area. In addition to this, he said that 374 forest beats are highly sensitive for forest fires and called for strengthening the fire tackling services in these areas.
Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized on diversifying the conifer plants regions with specific plant species of the area to help retain the moisture and reduce the numbers of fire incidents. He also directed the forest department to conduct a study from the government agency to look into the causes of fire incidents and recommend necessary actions.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma, Principal Secretary Forests Dr. Amandeep Garg, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Rajiv Kumar and senior officers of the department attended the meeting.

मुख्यमंत्री ठाकुर सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने आज यहां वनों को आग से बचाने के उपायों की समीक्षा बैठक की अध्यक्षता की। वनों में आग लगने की घटनाओं पर गहरी चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए उन्होंने वन विभाग के अधिकारियों को आग की घटनाओं पर अंकुश लगाने के लिए तत्काल सख्त कदम उठाने के साथ-साथ दीर्घकालिक उपाय करने के निर्देश दिए।
उन्होंने इन प्रयासों में जन भागीदारी सुनिश्चित करने पर बल देते हुए कहा कि लोगों के सहयोग से वनों में आग लगने की घटनाओं में धीरे-धीरे कमी आ रही है। मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि इस वर्ष अब तक वनों में 1318 आग की घटनाएं दर्ज की गई हैं। इन घटनाओं से 2789 हेक्टेयर हरित क्षेत्र सहित 12718 हेक्टेयर भूमि प्रभावित हुई है जिससे 4.61 करोड़ रुपये का प्रारंभिक वित्तीय नुकसान आंका गया है।
उन्होंने कहा कि वनों में आग लगने की घटनाओं को नियंत्रित करने और इससे होने वाले नुकसान को कम करने के लिए राज्य सरकार अग्निशमन के लिए विशेष रूप से प्रशिक्षित एनडीआरएफ की एक समर्पित बटालियन गठित करने पर विचार कर रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि 374 वन बीट आग लगने की घटनाओं के लिए अत्यधिक संवेदनशील हैं तथा इन क्षेत्रों में अग्निशमन सेवाओं का सुदृढ़ीकरण किया जाना चाहिए।
ठाकुर सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने वनों में विशिष्ट प्रजातियों के पौधों के साथ-साथ शंकुधारी पौधों के क्षेत्रों में विविध प्रजाती के पौधे लगानेे पर बल दिया ताकि इनसे वनों में नमी बनी रहे और आग की घटनाओं में कमी लाई जा सके। उन्होंने वन विभाग को आग की घटनाओं के कारणों की जांच करने और आवश्यक कार्यवाही की सिफारिश करने के लिए सरकारी एजेंसी से अध्ययन करवाने के निर्देश भी दिए।
बैठक में उद्योग मंत्री हर्षवर्धन चौहान, मुख्य सचिव प्रबोध सक्सेना, अतिरिक्त मुख्य सचिव ओंकार चंद शर्मा, प्रधान सचिव वन डॉ. अमनदीप गर्ग, मुख्यमंत्री के सचिव राकेश कंवर, प्रधान मुख्य अरण्यपाल (वन) राजीव कुमार और विभाग के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी उपस्थित थे।
