Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena today here chaired a review meeting focused on enhancing forest fire prevention measures across the state. While emphasizing the invaluable importance of forests, Chief Secretary underscored the collective responsibility to safeguard this natural wealth.
Chief Secretary highlighted the pivotal role of public participation and awareness in controlling forest fires. He urged local communities to actively engage in extinguishing fires promptly and advised them to report any signs of smoke or fire to the nearest forest department office or emergency services via toll-free numbers 1077 and 1070.
He also stressed the need to avoid activities that could trigger fires, such as discarding burning cigarettes, unauthorized campfires and fireworks near forested areas. He called upon the general public to collaborate closely with forest department officials and firefighting efforts to effectively manage forest fire incidents in their areas.
He has urged the public to report any instances of illegal setting of fires by anti-social elements to the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department and law enforcement agencies for swift action. Shri Saxena informed that Himachal Pradesh has approximately 27.73 percent of forest area and due to forest fire hectares of forested land have been affected during the 2023-24.
He acknowledged the vulnerability of pine forests, covering 2,759.62 square kilometers in the state, and their heightened sensitivity to fire incidents. He said that in response to these challenges several proactive steps have been undertaken by the department.
These include the provision of multi-utility vehicles, blower bags and the deployment of drone surveillance in critical forest areas. Additionally, the state has registered volunteers and members of NGOs to bolster early response efforts against forest fires. State Nodal officer Nishant Mandhotra gave a detailed presentation highlighting the preventive measures to protect forest from fire on the occasion.
Director General of Police Dr. Atul Verma, PCCF (HoFF) Rajiv Kumar, ADGP & Director Fire Services Rajesh Aggarwal, Director Rural Development Raghav Sharma, Special Secretary D.C Rana, Director Public Relations Rajiv Kumar and other senior officers from Forest Department were present in the meeting.
वनों की आग पर नियंत्रण पाने के लिए जन सहभागिता नितांत आवश्यक: मुख्य सचिव प्रबोध सक्सेना

मुख्य सचिव प्रबोध सक्सेना ने आज यहां प्रदेश में वनों को आग से बचाने के लिए किए जा रहे उपायों की समीक्षा बैठक की अध्यक्षता की। उन्होंने कहा कि वन हमारी अमूल्य सम्पदा है जिसकी सुरक्षा करना हमारा कर्त्तव्य है। वनों में लगने वाली आग पर नियंत्रण पाने के लिए जन सहभागिता और लोगों को जागरूक करना अत्यन्त आवश्यक है।
उन्होंने कहा कि स्थानीय लोगों को वनों में आग लगने पर उसे बुझाने में अपनी सहभागिता सुनिश्चित करनी चाहिए। उन्होंने आग्रह किया कि जंगल में धुंआ या आग की जानकारी मिलने पर निकटतम वन विभाग कार्यालय या आपातकालीन सेवाओं के टोल-फ्री नम्बर-1077 और 1070 पर सूचना अवश्य दें।
मुख्य सचिव ने कहा कि आग लगने का कारण बनने वाली गतिविधियों जैसे वन क्षेत्रों में जलती हुई सिगरेट फेंकना, प्रतिबंधित क्षेत्रों में कैंप फायर करना या जंगलों के पास आतिशबाजी इत्यादि बिल्कुल भी नहीं की जानी चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि आमजन को वनों की आग पर काबू पाने के लिए वन विभाग के अधिकारियों और अग्निशमन के प्रयासों में सहयोग करना चाहिए।
उन्होंने लोगों से अवैध रूप से जंगल में आग लगाने वाले असामाजिक तत्वों के बारे में जानकारी हिमाचल प्रदेश वन विभाग और कानून प्रवर्तन एंजेंसी को देने का आह्वान किया। प्रदेश के लगभग 27.73 प्रतिशत भू-भाग वन क्षेत्र है। प्रदेश के 2759.62 किलोमीटर क्षेत्र में चीड़ के वन हैं। चीड़ के वृक्ष आग की घटनाओं के लिए अति संवेदनशील है।
प्रदेश के वन क्षेत्र में वर्ष 2023-24 के दौरान आग लगने की घटनाओं से काफी क्षेत्र प्रभावित हुआ है। मुख्य सचिव ने कहा कि वनों को आग से बचाने के लिए अनेक महत्वाकांक्षी उपाय किए गए हैं। विभाग को मल्टी यूटीलिटी व्हीकल, ब्लोबैग इत्यादि उपलब्ध करवाए गए हैं और संवेदनशील क्षेत्रों में ड्रोन की सहायता से निगरानी का कार्य किया जा रहा है।
उन्होंने कहा कि प्रदेश में स्वयंसेवकों व गैर सरकारी संगठनों के सदस्य पंजीकृत किए गए हैं और इन्हें संबंधित क्षेत्रों में जंगल की आग के बारे में सूचित किया जाता है। इस अवसर पर स्टेट नोडल ऑफिसर निशांत मंढोतरा ने विस्तृत प्रस्तुति दी।
बैठक में पुलिस महानिदेशक डॉ. अतुल वर्मा, पीसीसीएफ (हॉफ) राजीव कुमार, एडीजीपी एवं निदेशक फायर सर्विसिज राकेश अग्रवाल, निदेशक ग्रामीण विकास राघव शर्मा, विशेष सचिव डीसी राणा और निदेशक सूचना एवं जन सम्पर्क राजीव कुमार उपस्थित थे। वन विभाग के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी भी बैठक में वर्चुअल माध्यम से शामिल हुए।
