The globally acclaimed International Shivratri Mahotsav began today with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu formally announcing the opening of the grand event from the historic Paddal Ground of Mandi.
Earlier, the Chief Minister offered obeisance at the temple of the main deity Shri Raj Madhav Rai and participated in the traditional Shobha Yatra Jaleb that started from the temple. The Chief Minister's wife Kamlesh Thakur was also present with him.
Thousands of devotees dressed in traditional attire carried the palanquins of their local deities to the Paddal ground. The procession took place at Paddal ground. The Chief Minister also participated in the turban ceremony and performed puja at Shri Raj Madhav Rai Temple.
Addressing a huge public meeting at Paddal, the Chief Minister announced a 10 percent increase in the Nazarana of the deities and 10 percent increase in the honorarium of the Bajantris. He said the people of Himachal have strong beliefs in Gods and local deities. The government was blessed to work for the benefit of Dev Samaj.
The Chief Minister said that the BJP was driving the six disqualified Congress MLAs, who betrayed the party, from one place to another like a shepherd. He questioned the BJP's motives behind shifting these MLAs and the independent MLAs of the state to Dehradun in a chartered plane and arranging their stay at a seven-star hotel in Rishikesh.
He stated that these MLAs were already resting under BJP's strict watch in a luxurious five-star hotel in Panchkula before they were shifted. He added that these MLAs have defied the trust of the people of their respective assembly constituencies and of the party by not listening the call of conscience and rather selling their soul for money.
He said that he came from an ordinary background and has become the Chief Minister by fighting for the rights of the people and has undergone numerous struggles and challenges in the process. "The post of Chief Minister belongs to a common man, like a farmer's son, an employee's son and other common people, who climb the ladder of challenges and struggles to reach here with the sole purpose of service of its people.
It does not belong to someone who wants the chair for power and enjoyment and uses money to snatch it. The general public will teach a lesson to those who try to snatch it with a conspiracy," remarked the Chief Minister.
He said that the State Government has a safe majority in the house and would complete its full 5 year tenure successfully. "Our government is working with the utmost dedication for the service of its people. Our fight is for democracy and we will safeguard the democratic processes. We won't let the BJP's anti-democratic plans to succeed," he stated.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the exhibition organized by various departments, boards and corporations at Paddal Ground. He also released the souvenir published by the fair committee on the occasion of Shivratri Mahotsav.Earlier, Fair Committee Chairman and Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan welcomed the chief guest and gave details of the activities of the fair.
On this occasion, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur, MLAs Chandrashekhar, Anil Sharma, Bhuvaneshwar Gaur and Suresh Kumar, Kangra Central Cooperative Bank Chairman Kuldeep Singh Pathania, APMC Chairman Sanjeev Guleria, Mayor Virendra Bhatt, former minister Kaul Singh Thakur, former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Lal Thakur, Congress leaders Champa Thakur, Pawan Thakur, Jeevan Thakur, SP Sakshi Verma, President of Sarv Devta Samiti Shivpal Sharma and all the officials of the fair committee and a large number of devotees were present.

मुख्यमंत्री ठाकुर सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने आज मंडी के ऐतिहासिक पड्डल मैदान से विश्व विख्यात अन्तरराष्ट्रीय शिवरात्रि महोत्सव का विधिवत शुभारंभ किया। इससे पहले, मुख्यमंत्री ने मुख्य देवता राज माधोराय के मंदिर में शीश नवाया तथा मंदिर से शुरू हुई पारंपरिक शोभा यात्रा जलेब में भाग लिया। इस दौरान उनकी धर्मपत्नी श्रीमती कमलेश ठाकुर भी साथ रहीं।
पारंपरिक परिधानों से सजे हजारों श्रद्धालुओं ने देवी-देवताओं की पालकियों को पड्डल मैदान तक पहुंचाया। यह शोभा यात्रा पड्डल मैदान में संपन्न हुई। मुख्यमंत्री ने पगड़ी समारोह में भी भाग लिया और श्री राज माधोराय मंदिर में विधिवत पूजा-अर्चना की। उन्होंने पड्डल में एक विशाल जनसभा को संबोधित करते हुए देवताओं के नजराने और बजंतरियों के मानदेय में 10-10 प्रतिशत बढ़ोतरी की घोषणा की। उन्होंने कहा कि हम देव संस्कृति को मानने वाले लोग हैं। देव समाज के हित के लिए सरकार कार्य कर रही है।
मुख्यमंत्री ने कांग्रेस के अयोग्य घोषित 6 विधायकों का जिक्र करते हुए कहा कि भाजपा गडरिये की तरह उन्हें हांक कर यहां से वहां ले जा रही है। उन्होंने सवाल किया कि आखिर क्या वजह है कि पंचकूला के पांच सितारा होटल में आराम के बाद अब उन लोगों को भाजपा चार्टेड प्लेन से देहरादून ले गई और वहां ऋषिकेश में एक सात सितारा होटल में रखा है। उन लोगों ने अंतरात्मा की नहीं बल्कि धन-आत्मा की पुकार सुनी और पार्टी तथा जनता को धोखा दिया।
उन्होंने कहा कि वह एक आम परिवार से निकल कर जनता के हकों के लिए संघर्ष करते हुए मुख्यमंत्री के पद तक पहुंचे हैं। उनकी कुर्सी किसान के बेटे, कर्मचारी के बेटे की है। यह आम जनता की कुर्सी है और साजिश के साथ इसे छीनने की कोशिश करने वालों को जनता सबक सिखाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि कांग्रेस सरकार पूरी मजबूती से जनता के लिए काम कर रही है। यह सरकार 5 साल चलेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि हमारी लड़ाई लोकतंत्र के लिए है। भाजपा द्वारा लोकतंत्र को कमजोर करने के मंसूबे सफल नहीं होंगे।
मुख्यमंत्री ने पड्डल मैदान में विभिन्न विभागों, बोर्डों एवं निगमों द्वारा लगाई गई प्रदर्शनियों का शुभारंभ किया। उन्होंने शिवरात्रि महोत्सव के अवसर पर मेला समिति द्वारा प्रकाशित स्मारिका का विमोचन भी किया। मेला समिति के अध्यक्ष एवं उपायुक्त अपूर्व देवगन ने मुख्य अतिथि का स्वागत किया और मेले की गतिविधियों का ब्यौरा दिया।
इस अवसर पर मुख्य संसदीय सचिव सुंदर सिंह ठाकुर, विधायक चंद्रशेखर, अनिल शर्मा, भुवनेश्वर गौड़, सुरेश कुमार, कांगड़ा केन्द्रीय सहकारी बैंक के अध्यक्ष कुलदीप पठानिया, एपीएमसी अध्यक्ष संजीव गुलेरिया, महापौर वीरेन्द्र भट्ट, पूर्व मंत्री कौल सिंह ठाकुर, पूर्व संसदीय सचिव सोहन लाल ठाकुर, कांग्रेस नेता चंपा ठाकुर, पवन ठाकुर, जीवन ठाकुर, पुलिस अधीक्षक साक्षी वर्मा, सर्व देवता समिति के अध्यक्ष शिवपाल शर्मा सहित मेला समिति के सभी पदाधिकारी और बड़ी संख्या में स्थानीय लोग उपस्थित थे।
